To the Farmer today The Alfalfa Meal Mill at Echo, Oregon is paying a minimum price of 6 a ton for alfalfa in stack, the company paying for hauling. This year the alfalfa yield one quarter of a mile from our project netted 8 tons to the acre, the highest yield on the same land be ing 10 tons. The cost for producing varies from 1.25 to 1.50 per ton, giving a net in come per acre on these figures of 36 to 38. These facts can be readily verified. Archbishop Ireland Is not only a distinguished churchman, but ho Is also one of the foremost citizens of the I'niteil States. In the broadest and best sense of citizenship. Although an ecclesiastic and a de voted and enthusiastic adherent to the tenets of the great religious or ganization of which ho Is a member, no man rightfully may accuse John Ireland of lack of hympathy with what he regards as the rational lib erty of modern life. As a priest he Is of necessity a profound believer In education. lie Is also a devoted friend of free dom of the genuine sort, and his life has been conspicuous by reason of his manifold hik) influential endeavors to share with tho masses of the people the religion, morality and social cap- Ital of the world.
