There are eight cities included In the harness race circuit, with the following dates: - Belllngham, Wash., August 24-29; Everett, Wash., Au gust 31-Soptember E; Seattle, Wash., September 7-12; Salem, Ore., Sep tember 21-26; North Yakima, Wash., September 28-October 3; Spokane, Wash, October 6-10; Lewiston, Idaho, October 12-17. For the racing events, In which there are close to 600 trotters and pacers from all trans-Rocky Moun tain and coast states and northwest ern Canada entered, the aggregate stakes and purses will be $125,000, of which amount the County Club and Livestock association will contribute $20,000. There are seven titles In the North Pacific fair circuit at which the live stock interests will vie for another $100,000 or more In cash premiums. These are: Snohomish county fair, Everett, Wash., September 1-5; West ern Washington fair Seattle, Septem ber 7-12; Orc-ROn State fair, Salem, September 12-19; Pacific National show, Portland, September 21-26; Washington state fair, North Yakl mn, September 28-October 3; Spo kane Interstate fair, Spokane, Octo ber 5-10; Walla Walla County fair, Walla Wnlla, October 12-17. The Portland livestock show prem iums according to the complete list which has Just been announced will total another $20,000, for the four di visions, horses, cattle, sheep and swine, and feature classes. Hot Springs, Va., Aug. 20. A rally of Virginia republicans will be held here tomorrow, when Mr. Taft will deliver an address. His remarks will deal with conditions In the south ern states generally and will mark the beginning of an attempt on the part of the republican campaign com mittee to break Into the solid south. Reports from southern republicans have encouraged Mr. Taft to believe that the republicans have a better chance to carry one or two of the southern states than at any time In the last quarter of a century. M. Tinker, Inspector of Indian iffalrs of the department of t he in terior, Is In the city In an endeavor to locate Indians nnd ascertain their lustres as to whether they wish to retain allotments made them by the government or prefer to relinquish them to the government or exchnnge them for other portions of govern ment lands, says The Dalles Chron icle. The allotments in question are In Oregon In township 2 north, range east Willamette meridian, and compromise some 15 to 20 allotments. Originally the lands In question were granted to the Northern Pacific railroad company on condition that It complete Its line bbtween Wallula ana roruana unuer certain conditions as regards time, etc. These lands were portions of the grant which In cluded every odd section adjacent to the line of the company. The railroad company failed to comply with Its portion of the agree ment, and the lands reverted to the government. Later the railroad re organized under the name of the Northern Pacific Railroad company and the grant was renewed. But In the meantime white men had settled on the lands which by the delinquency of the railroad had reverted to the government, and al lotments to non-reservation Indians had been made here by officials of the Indian affairs of the govern ment. That he may ascertain wheth er the Indians who were given these allotments wish to retain them, re linquish or exchange them for other lands Is the mission of Mr. Tinker In this city at this time.
