McMURRAY General Paaseag Aftat PORTLAND, OBSOOM Pardoned from a penitentiary Hie sentence because of a dream such Is thV romantic circumstances surround ing the release of Oeorge W. Jones, from the Texas state prison at Hunts- a A where he was incnrceraieu u years ago on the charge or murder ing 'a woman. The murder was committed In 11- llnmson county. A woman whose name has been handlod more or less by local gossips was found dead. Cer- clrcumstiuices seemingly pomieu to Jones as the murderer. He was tried and convicted. His wife sliow- her devotion by removing from her home to Huntsvllle, so that she might visit him frequently. Ho was woll-to-do and furnlBhod money for her support. Jones maintained his Innocence or the crime, setting forth that he was at all times devoted to his wife and never associated with other women. For about a year Mrs. Jones was a freouent caller at the prison. It was the one bright spot in Jones' prison life these visits from his wire. But there came a time when the visits were not so frequent. Jones pined, but his wife explained that she fear ed to gain the displeasure of the prison officials. She fell that they were annoyed by her calls. Divorce rnpers Served. One dav after the visits had slack ened there came a civil officer to the prison with a divorce summons for Jones. "Here Is a paper for you," the officer. Jones' heart flut teredprobably that faithful wife of his hnrt secured him a pardon. He glanced at It hurriedly he realized Its meanlne. ratchlnar ud a hatchet with whlen he had been working he severed his right hand at the wrls and with his leu ne nanaea ine amiiuwicu mem ber to the dcouty sheriff, saying: Take this back to my wire, ana tell her It Is my answer to her divorce petition my good right hand; a hand that has never committed a crime, but has worked all these years for her support." Thn rfivnrrn was eranted and the wife soon married again married a man whom she - met In Huntsvllle, where she was living to be near her convict husband. Jones' wounded arm healed after a nnlnful ileee. but he always mourn ed for his wife, and often In the night thn runi-da on their rounds would hear him sobbing her name. . WaldrlD'a Strango Dream. And now for the strange part of the story. J. H. Waldrlp. who lives at Chester, Texas, and who years ago read newspaper accounts or now Jones had chopped his hand off, dreamed a few weeks ago of the af fair. He also, saw in his dream the murder of the woman saw the trag cdy enacted, he declares, as plainly as though he had been an actual eye witness. Waldrlp was not acquaint ed wiih .Tones hnrt never even seen him, but he was familiar with his de scription from heresay, and th man he saw In his dream the man who killed the woman was of entirely different appearance. Waldrlp was so Impressed with his dream that he felt called upon to study the case. He neglected his own business and delved Into the records He Interviewed the prosecuting at torney In the case. He sought the trial 1udKe. long since retired, and begged him for assistance In freeing Jones. "This man Is not guilty, I know It t smv another man commit that murder saw him in my dream Waldrlp declared with earnestness. Mystery Is Solved. At first Waldrlp's dream was look ed unon as a Joke. His friends fear ed. for his sanity. But he kept per Pistently at his task, and at last at tracted more or less of a following IMUfi bv little the tangled sKem was nnwnlinnV And now. through the dream of Waldrlp, a total Btranger, the Governor of Texas and the par Hon hoard have set free Convict Jones. Bereft of his wife for whose love he sacrificed his right hand, Jones haa soueht seclusion on a ranch near Rim Antonio, where he savs he shall remain. DR. R. E. RINGO, PHYSICIAN AND KiirffAon.
