Weston seems little quiet after the excitement of the past week for the commencement of the normal. The scholars have an rone to their homes for the summer. The faculty wll lgo to different places. some to remain elsewhere and other will return for the text term as fol lows: Miss Helen Klelnknecht goes to New Tork city, where she will occupy the chair of psychology In the normal department of the city training school for teachers. C. E. Hooper returns ot Michigan having resigned as director of athlet Ics. Donald P. Mitchell will visit friends In Los Angeles, and will probably re turn to the music department of the Normal. Mrs. Anna Z. Crayne will spend the summer with her daughter In New Tork city, and return to her school work at Weston In September. Mrs. Edina Worden spends the va cation period in Portland and will again be a member of the Normal faculty. During part of vacation Miss Nao mi Stengel will teach at the Albany college summer school, and will re turn to Weston. John Mather will spend vacation in southern California." President French will attend the meeting of the state board at Salem June 29. and soon after the state teachers' meeting at Eugene. Mrs. French contemplates a visit at the home of her mother in New' port, R. I. Miss Agnes Bulfinch remains at her home near town. Miss Miller goes to Salt Lake City. Miss Hall left for her home at Pen dleton. Miss Leah Elliot of Walla Walla now teaching music In Weston, has Just organized the Harmony Music club. Officers have been elected and the club will have some very pleasant meetings. Clark Wood, editor of the Weston Leader, leaves today for Portland, where he goes as a delegate to the grand lodge convention, K. P. Iln will be accompanied by his mother, Mrs. S. L. Wood, who will visit rela tives in the city for a short time. Wheat Prospects. Prospects for wheat are not as flat tering as they might be In this sec tion of the county, though If the prices remain good, the farmers expect an average year, It Is likely that 35 bushels to the acre is all that will be received In most places on account of the unfavorable season. Land that had been yielding about 50 bushels in the best years win gn about 40 this year ,a according to the present outlook. Ellis, who has been seriously 111 at his home In this city, has been removed to Baker by his son Will, who thinks that a change might do him good. Agripinn anj Bruhup, two fleet racers owned by Faye LeGrow, have been entered In the Butte races, and were shipped to the Butte track this week. The race meeting opens there June 27. Hermlston, June 13. One of the leading social events ever given in the west end of the county was that of Thursday evening by Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Dodd, a farewell reception to Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Whistler, who will go to Portland to reside. Mr. Whist ler is chief engineer on the Umatilla project and he and his wife have made many friends during their res idence here in the past two years. They left yesterday for Portland. The board of directors of the Water Users association and their wives were pres ent to assist In entertaining and nearly everyone in the city turned out to wish well to the Whistlers who have been so long and prominently Identified with the affairs -of Hermls ton and the Umatilla project. Work on the dam of the Umatilla project Is being rushed through with all possible speed, and it will only be few weeks until the entire project Is complete. A number of the men that were employed on the dam are now engaged In work on the break In the ditch near Echo, where a few miles of concrete lining will be put in. This work will take a few weeks at least. R. Alexander was here' from Pen dleton yesterday visiting with his daughter, Mrs. E. P. Dodd. A number of carloads of potatoes will be marketed from here In a very short time. The crop is looking fine, and a good yield is expected. Anoth er year will show Hermlston has a great market for potatoes, vegetables and fruits. Land sales continue to be made In the Hermiston country, all real estate dealers reporting excellent results of late. The changes of season do not seem to make much difference, and the sales are almost as heavy as they were early In the spring.
