Tomorrow morning the baseball team will go to Walla Walla to meet with the Garden City player for the first time this year and from indica tions the excursion train to be run for the occasion will take, half the city's population to the game. The excursion will leave here at 9 o'clock In the morning and will reach Walla Wala shortly before nodh. Returning the train will pull out of Walla Walla at 7 o'clock. For the round trip a fare of 11.40 is given. In the game tomorrow Pendleton will have a lineup as follows: Parkes, pitcher; Conrad, catcher; Lorimer, first base; Van Houten, second base; Kem, third base; Lee, short stop; Baker, right field; Gray, center field, and King, left field. All of these men have been play ing together during the season and the lineup with one exception, Is the same as it was in the game with La Grande last Saturday. The game tomorrow will be played at Meador park, the new resort a few miles out from Walla Walla and it 'will mark the opening of the park. It Is claimed by the Walla Walla people that they will ha-e out the largest crowd that ever witnessed a "ball game in that city. building excepting the pressed brick to be used on the Alta and Cottonwood street sides. D. A. May has a sub-contract for the brick work on the city hall, while Gibson & Cole have the general con tract with the city for constructing the building. Building Cottage. A. D. Sloan, vice president of the Commercial National bank, is erect ing a modern cottage on the lot just between his handsome residence and Koontz hall, on the north side of the river. The stone foundation and the stone basement are already complet ed. It will be up to date in every sense of the word and will be an ad dition to that already beautiful part of the city. Glenn Goodman Here. Glenn Goodman arrived this morn ing from Portland and will visit here until tomorrow with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Goodman. During the past year he has been employed by the Honeyman hardware company of Portland and has been a salesman In their house. He is now to go upon the road for the company and will cover southern Oregon territory. WESTOX BRICK IX HALL. City Structure to Be Built of Umatilla County Product. The contract for furnishing the brick for the city hall has been se cured by the Weston brick yard. Barre. serving a life sentence for a murder committed In Wallowa coun ty. In a strenuous effort to rid their cell of bugs the two men took th oil from their cell lamps and washe the walls. They then set fire to the same. In an Instant the cell was en veloped In flames and the two men were In danger of being burned to death. According to the acoount from Sa lem, Weddle saved himself by rolling on the floor and covering himself with a blanket. Barre tried to fight the flames and was badly burned about the head and hands. There Is chance that he may not recover. weddle Is the fellow who with Lewis perpetrated a brutal hold-up at Echo two years ago and he late escaped from the county Jail only to be caught later in Spokane by Sheriff Taylor after a stirring footrace, COMES TO AX END OFF TO THE COXVEXTIOX. Umatilla County Delegates Will At tend State Sunday School Meeting at Forest Grove. Umatilla county will be well repre sented In the state Sunday school con vention which convenes next' Monday morning at Forest Grove. Six dele gates at least will be in attendance from this county, and pemaps more whose names have not been learned will attend. Those who are known to be plan ing to go are Mrs. S. A. Lowell, who is now in Portland on her way to For est Grove, Mrs. W. L. Van Nuys, who went down to Portland several days ago, - Rev. R. E. Storey of the First Baptist church of this city, Mrs. S. S. Shields of Milton and Mr. and Mrs. John Geisg of Adams. The convention will meet on Mon day morning for a three-days' ses sion, and both Mrs. Lowell and Rev. Paul V. Mnrlrf 1 Deputy. Paul V. Maris is now a dqputy dairy commissioner for Oregon, he having recently been appointed to such a position by J. W. Bailey, the state dairy and food commissioner. He Is a son of N. C. Maria, the well known field editor of the Rural Splrr it, and he will render the dairy in dustry valuable service as he is fully competent to perform the dutes re quired of him. His work will be In the country mainly where he will visit the dairy farms for the purpose of testing each cow's milk, ascertain the feed given to the cows and note the various methods pursued by the most successful dairymen. Cut Pay of City Employe The city of Seattle has decided that hereafter all new men on city work shall receive only 12 per day, a re duction of 60 cents over the prevail ing scale. The reduction will apply to men employed hereafter only, the did men being continued on the pay roll at the rate of wages that has been In force, according to advices receiv ed from that city. The new rate ot wages will apply only to the men working In the city parks, and It Is not expected that it will be extended to other city laborors. Dropped Dead in Field. Andrew Neglle dropped dead Tues day afternoon at John Welssenfluh's place while chasing a hog, says the Long Creek Ranger. He had been driving a clod smasher over newly sown ground when he noticed the hog In the field. He started to drive It out. lie ran about 00 yards and walked about 50 yards and fell over. Kd and Frank Felssenfluh saw him fall and hurried to his assistance. When they arrived Mr. Neglto was gasping for breath and died almost Immediately. Two Spokane women are attempt ing to get divorces on the grounds that their husbands are Incarcerated In th state penitentiary. O. R. & N. employes are satisfied with the arrangement made with the general managers of western rail roads concerning the operation of the 16-hour federal law, according to the reports of the delegates who havo returned from the Chicago con ference. Under the operation of the federal law train crews had been tied up away from the terminals and had been allowed to make but 80 per cent of the mileage per month which they made before the law went Into effect and a -general complaint was sent up to the Harrlman headquar ters concerning the matter. Instances of crews being tied up at Kamela, Meachatn, Baker City. Bingham Springs and other. points on the O. R. & N., away from La Grande, which is the terminal and home of the mountain crews, were taken before the conference and it Is understood that satisfactory agree ments have been reached. A Chica go dispatch says of the result of the conference. The general managers of the nrln- clpal roads west of Chicago and the representatives of men engaged In train service announced their agree ment as to the application of the 16 hour law. George Beard, who has managed to remain free for five years, was ar rested at Llnd, Adams county, last night and will be returned to Walla Walla by Deputy Sheriff Painter to morrow to await trial on the charge of horsestealing, says the Bulletin. This makes 12 arrests on this charge that have been made by and for the Walla Walla county officers this year. It was in 1903 that the crime for which Beard is wanted, was commit ted. A warrant was issued for the man at the time but he skipped the country. Deputy Sheriff Charles Painter was sheriff then and though he did all he could, was unable to locate hjm. He sent accurate descriptions of the man to all officers of the northwest and urged them to watch out for Beard, As a result a message was received last night from Llnd, Washington, saying that the man was under arrest and Deputy Painter left lnrmedlate ly for Llnd. The Eagle Show Shop has a change of program today which will continue over until Monday, when there will be another change. The pictures the past two days have been especially good and In excellent coloring, among them being "The Slave's Love" and the Illustrated song, "I'm Trying so Hard to Forget You." Colored Man Say Mark Pulton Hut His Two PitimoiuH In a suit that was filed here last evening Mark Patton Is sued by James Washington, colored, for two diamonds which he claims are his, but are In Patton's possession. They are valued at $240 and $280 respec tively and In the complaint Pntton is. asked to return the diamonds with $50 for use of the same or else pay the plaintiff $500 for the stones. The complaint was filed last even ing by Attorneys Bailey and Perry, and In the same It is claimed that the diamonds had been left with Ralph Wade In 1901 and that he had turned them over to Patton. FROST AT HELIX Slight Damage Sustained by Fruit Wheat Shows Effects. That a heavy frost occurred last night In the Helix country was stated today by Andrew Lelslnger, who has been here today. The frost Is said to have been so severe that "some of the fruit was Injured while the wheat was blackened to some extent.
