Etonian iO'S WORLD CUM SHEEP The following letter from Idaho Falli to the Boise Capital New .De scribes the world's Champion Lincoln ram, " Fleshy Boy." owned by Joseph Empey of that place. The letter says: There are few sheep on the range that have not their price. All of them are good at current market figures, but there is a ram in thl city that can not be purchased for love nor mon ey, and the cut presented below would Indicate In a way his superiority over all the wooly tribe. It la "Fleshy Boy," the ram that has been training with 200 Lincoln ewes recently pur chased by Joseph Empey, the well known sheep and stockman of thU section. This animal is a prize winner from every part of the country He has a string of ribbons captured at various national and other exhibitions which. If sewed together, would picket him In a 40-acre field. The animal weighs 480 pounds, and has a pedigree as long as a nobleman He Is the heav iest sheep In the world. He has been on exhibition here for some time, and has excited the admiration of all stock raisers and particularly sheep men. Eighty premium ribbons are nailed to his record as a prize ani mal. The animal is just four years old, and is u Canadian product, and as a show buck his career dates back to 1905. On August 29 he left Ilderton for the Minnesota state fair, and took first money, and champion over all ages. He next appeared at the Port land exhibition, where he won hands down over a ram that had been cho sen as a winner over "Fleshy Boy" by a well known Lincoln breeder of the coast. He not only won the first In his class, but the grand champion ship. Later he was exhibited at the Washington State fair, then at the Inter-Mountain fair at Spokane, and at both exhibitions duplicated what he has already done at previous shows. His brother captured second prize. At the Chicago International Fat Stock fair, and after a heavy breed ing season of 30 days .he badly defeat ed the winner from England, and In 1906 he outclassed all the prize rams on exhibition at the Provincial ex hibit in Ontario. At the Canada Western exhibition In London, Ontario, he was again winner this time in his own country. He was used in the stud pens again for 30 or 40 days, and was again sent to Chicago, where he duplicated his record for 1906. There is nothing more for him to win, as he is in a class by himself, and has secured all the prizes. The ancestors of this marvelous sheep are the flock of Henry Duddlng of Lincolnshire, England, the most noted Lincoln breeder In the world. One of his relatives sold for $7250, and the present owner of "Fleshy Boy" refused 16000 for him. The animal has never been sick a day and Is a wonder for durability His fleeces for 1905-6-7 have been kept and they weigh respectively 27, 26 and 26 pounds, or at total of 78 pounds, and this year will be heavier than ever. So that he is a record sheep In all ways. A noted sheep breeder who recent I ly visited this city, In speaking of Mr. Empey's herd of 100 Lincoln I ewes, stated: "They are 200 of the j finest ewes I ever sold to any one I man. They will average about 200 i pounds in weight and as sheepmen I generally put It, they are all wool and a yard wide." Mr. Empey probably : has the finest bunch of Lincoln rams in the United States, and they are "Fleshy Boy" stock. He Got What He Needed. "Nine years ago it looked as If my time had come," says Mr. C. It Is probable that If enough animals can be ordered, the Hazlewood company will send a man to the dairy sections In the middle west and ship out the required number as It did In the We natchee and Yakima countries. With two or three carloads of pure bred or at least good grade cattle, the time will not be far distant when the Palouse country will be noted for Its excellent dairy stock. The college has several good sires of the dairy types at the farm and there is tittle necessity of shipping In many male animals. The Guernsey, redpolled and several other breeds are not represented at the farms, however, and the animals of these breeds would necessarily have to be brought In. . The plan of securing a pure bred sire and grade cattle and breeding up to a first class standard as Is now be ing done by a number of men adja cent to Pullman Is an excellent one, but the time when a pure bred herd may be secured Is a long way off. The bringing of a number of good dairy cows and then breeding to the dairy strains would hasten the time when only first class mllchers would be found In the stalls of the ralry barns of the Palouse country. The farmers near Palouse last year secured a number of cattle as Is sug gested by Mr. Goselln nnd are making more rapid strides towards pure bred herds han those In the vicinity of Pullman.
