Bottlng has filed action In Justice Milter's court against the O. R. & X. to recover $125 - : :! ;! of Roods which it Is alleged were lost by the railroad company last July. Rev. J. M. L. Hoyle, of BUiiel, Ida delivered an address in the Columbia college chapel at 9 o'clock this morn ing. His subject was the Glories of Young Life," and It was very much enjoyed. Kelts Alfalfa Land. W. J. Emery has sold 20 acres of alfalfa land for a consideration of $1850 to Mr. Dotson of the Big Bend country. He has also sold 40 acres to Charles Richardson for $160 per acre. J. I. Dotson has purchased 40 acres of land from C. W. Records for $6000. Clcan-up Day. Yesterday was clean-up day In Mil ton, and the streets are looking fine. For several days the school grounds about the three buildings have been undergoing a much needed leveling and seeding to grass, while In the city a general movement has been going on. Methodist's Gather nerc. The Methodist Ministerial and Lay association of the Walla Walla dis trict met in the Methodist church here yesterday and they will hold a three days' session. Today is being devoted to home mission work. To morrow will be devoted to the inter ests of education. There are a large jiumber of delegates here for the meet ing. Real spring weather has been en Joyed the last day or two, and the farmers are in hopes that cold weath er Is over as the spring has been backward so far. Robert Knight sold 10 acres of tim ber land southeast of this place to Mary J. Cobb for 4100. Snow In Mountains. L. M. Reavisi has returned from the mountains, where he says there are over six feet of snow on the level ground, which has fallen in the last week. It is said by many that If a warm rain and a chlnook wind ware to come soon, there would yet be the highest water of the season In this vicinity. Pomeroy, Wash., whered he has been Leslie Tolen has returned from for some time. Prwnalcr Notes. Freewater, April 8. Mrs. Julia Reeves, sister of the late James Fitz gerald, who died In Walla Walla Sunday, has been here looking after the property of the deceased. It Is found that he left no will. What the waitresses need most Is a place to go when they are sick or out of work, where they can cook their own meals and find shelter at a small cost. If we were to go outside of Se attle to secure funds I am sure that the necessary money could be quickly raised, but we do not wish to do that. Weston, April 8. Colonel Clark Wood has resigned from the office of city recorder, and his father, L. S. Wood, who has recently returned from California, will again take up the duties of recorder. The. Commercial association nas drawn up a resolution endorsing a lib- eral support of the state university at Eugene and deploring the system permitting a few signatures to a pe tition to clog the wheels of progress. Interested in Line. The people of Weston are greatly interested in the report that the council will shortly be asked for a franchise to operate the electric line through Weston. The Walla Walla Traction company, which has had a force of men at work surveying be tween here and Milton, are doing ac tive work In this vicinity, and it is reported that it is the Intention of the company to build the line on to Pen dleton. Weston will do all in her power to encourage the enterprise. The Reading club met with Miss Eva Wood last Saturday, -when a very interesting program was carried out. Wm. Gould, who has been verv til for some weeks, is reported to be falling very rapidly. Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery of Cali fornia, are guests of Mrs. Margaret Wheeler at the Weston Hotel. Funeral Today. The funeral of Mrs. Elizabeth Ba ker, who died here Tuesday morning was held this morning at 11 o'clock, a large number of the people of this section of the county, where she Is well known, being in attendance. Rev. j Charles Quinney'of Pendleton, con ducted the services. Death Was On His Heels. Jesse P. Morris of Skippers. Va., had a close calf In the spring of 1906.
