Governor Gooding Is determined "that sheep scab nhull be exterminated in the state of Idaho and to that end bag Invited the federal authorities to take hold of the matter and conduct a systematic dipping of all Idaho flocks. Col. George S. Hlckock of Salt Lake, In charge of the federal stork Inspectors In the Northwest, Is Jn the city today conferring with the governor on the work. According to the present plan five or six inspectors ' will be put to work at once and by the ; first of April at least 21 will be en Caged In the work. Every sheep In the state will have to be dipped and those that show evidence of the dis ease will have to undergo the second dipping. The federal Inspectors will work In conjunction with Dr. George E. No ble, who has been appointed state veterinarian surgeon under the law passed by the state legislature. It la not the Intention of the federal gov ernment to take the matter entirely out of the bunds of the state govern ment but merely to assist In getting the work started. According to the present plan all the sheep running on the ranges of Idaho will have to be dipped before being turned out again. A conserva tive estimate Is that there are about two and a half million sheep owned In the state, besides about three quar ters of a million owned by non-residents that aoe run, in tfie state; .: AH are included In the general order. As It costs about two cents a head to dip A' sheep It is estimated ihat It will aost the sheepmen of the start close to 11(10.000 to comply with the order. Sheepmen, however, are generally .. In favor of the plan and It Is believed ' ' that theywlll heartily co-operate" with the government as It practically means the elimination of the scab which Ih destroying the Idaho flocks. Two or three years of such work, with j careful watching and close Inspection It Is believed will wipe out the, dis ease Boise Capital News. - ' , 1 ) , Woolen Mill at linker City. Those who are enthusiastic over the proposition are firmly con vinced that a market can readily be found for the product of such a mill and that a little enterprise and pull ing together on the part of the pub lic spirited citizens will Insure the success of the proposition. Baker City Democrat Keep Off the Walks, Without a word of debate and by unanimous vote the council last night Instructed the city attorney to pre pare an 'ordinance prohibiting bi cyclists from riding on the sidewalks In any section of the city. The fact that there Was no discussion strongly suggests that the bicyclist must take his medicine. Periodically In the past, when through the complaint of pedestrians, the subject of regulating the wheelmen came before the coun cil, there was some disposition to en deavor to adjust the issue,, and as a result .compromises were7 reached from time to time allowing the bi cyclist to use the. walks in certain sections. But the agitation and com plaints have continued, and now the cyc'llst',ls definitely In the nuisance class.
