Large Crowds Attend the Needliam Revival Now In Progress In This City. The subject of Rev. Thomas Need ham's sermon at the Presbyterian church last night was the three last words of Christ from the cross, "It Is finished." The sermon was replete with un answerable argument sustaining the plan of redemption and salvation, and full of vivid comparisons, applicable to every-day life. His manner of speaking Is convincing and direct and his sermons appeal to all classes of people, because of their forcible com parisons, keen logic and Intense earn estness. The meetings are growing in inter est every night. Last night the pas tors of severul other denominations were present and assisted in the opening and the closing services. Large numbers of members of other churches were present, beside a large number of non-church going people. Mr. Needham was one of Moody's strongest evangelists for 2Q years and brings a ripened experience to the meetings. The afternoon Bible meet ings are especially commended to Christian people, as being highly in teresting for the study of Bible sub jects. . All are cordially invited to these meetings, as well as to the gen eral meeting at 7:30 p. m. The music al service at each meeting is an In valuable help to the work of the evan gelist - Mr. Powers Is a singer of great ability and force. 4 1ST ANNIVERSARY K. OF P. Celebrated in Pendleton With a Program and Banquet. Last night the 41st anniversary of the order of Knights of Pythias, was appropriately observed by the local lodge, Damon No. 4. The first part of the evening was given to work in the third rank and three esquires, G. W. Eyre, Louis La Dow and E. 8. Isaucs, were given the work of that rank. A number of visitors were present In addition to the members of the large local lodge. Following the Initiatory ceremonies a recess was taken and the ladies of the Ruthbone Sisters and other in vited guests were recelvedi The as sembly was then called to order by J. W. Maloney,, past grand chancellor for Oregon, who explained the pur pose of the gathering and presided walle the following program was given: Address, "Principles of Pythian lam," W. E. EIHb; song by Pythian quartet, Messrs. Lundell, Rader, Wil son and White: "Pythlaniam as it Seems to an Outsider," Roy Raley; vocal solo, Miss Rena Ferguson; ad dress, "The Fraternal man," T. G. Halley; vocal solo, Wlllard Bond; Chinese monoloaue. George W. Eyre. The program was exceptionally well arranged, and all the numbers were enthusiastically received. Borle, cashier of the Savings Bank, made a visit to Weston In the Interests of the bank, and returned this afternoon. Clark Wood, editor of the Weston Leader, is In the city today, having attended the Knights of Pythias ban quet last nignt. James A. Howard and H. T. Hen- dryx, of Sumpter, are In the city at tending to business connected with the Golconda sale. G. L. Judson, of Pilot Rock, is in the city a guest of Hotel Bickers. . J. M. Spenoe and Mark Patton went to Milton this morning. - Julius Levy, formerly of Athena, but now a merchant of Walla Walla passed through this morning from a visit to his mother at Union. : E. E. Thomas, who has been era ployed in the furniture and second hand store of Hunter and Graham has gone to Lexington to take charge of a store at that place. , M. A. Ferguson, justice of the Peace of Adams precinct, and editor of the Adams Advance, left for borne this morning after attending the Knights of Pythias banquet last night, H. H. Wright of Denver, Is the guest of his old friend, A. B. Rags- dale. After spending a few days here he will go to Spokane, and ulti mately prospect the entire Northwest. W. H. H. Scott, of Athena, is In the city today. He says It Is possible that some of the wheat on the high knolls is slightly Injured In that dis trict, but not enough, perhaps, to be noticeable. C. C. Henderson, of Pilot Rock, well known sheepman, is here on a business visit. Sheep In that district are in fine condition for the lambing season and he expects fully 100 per cent Increase in nearly every herd this year. Ferguson, of Adams; York Dell and Bruce Wallace, of Athena; Joe Gill, of Helix, and C. E. McCumber. of Wallula. Scott Bozorth manager of the Pa cific Homestead, at Salem, passed through this morning to Weston In the Interest of his paper. After the first of April M. Bozorth will have charge of the advertising department of the Weekly Oregon' Journal of Portland, and will remove from Sa lem to Portland. Dunlap, treasurer of the Wind River Lumber company, who Is In the city today. The Wind River company owns the Oregon Lumber yard at this place, and It la to visit the local branch of his company that Mr, Dunlap Is here. Four other agencies are maintained In Eastern Oregon by the Wind River people. They are at Echo, Moro, Ir rlgon and lone. All of these places are In the wheat belt of Eastern Or egon, In which times have been unu sually good during the past few sea sons..
