Large Crowds Attend the Needliam
Revival Now In Progress In This
City.
The subject of Rev. Thomas Need
ham's sermon at the Presbyterian
church last night was the three last
words of Christ from the cross, "It
Is finished."
The sermon was replete with un
answerable argument sustaining the
plan of redemption and salvation, and
full of vivid comparisons, applicable
to every-day life. His manner of
speaking Is convincing and direct and
his sermons appeal to all classes of
people, because of their forcible com
parisons, keen logic and Intense earn
estness. The meetings are growing in inter
est every night. Last night the pas
tors of severul other denominations
were present and assisted in the
opening and the closing services.
Large numbers of members of other
churches were present, beside a large
number of non-church going people.
Mr. Needham was one of Moody's
strongest evangelists for 2Q years and
brings a ripened experience to the
meetings. The afternoon Bible meet
ings are especially commended to
Christian people, as being highly in
teresting for the study of Bible sub
jects. . All are cordially invited to
these meetings, as well as to the gen
eral meeting at 7:30 p. m. The music
al service at each meeting is an In
valuable help to the work of the evan
gelist - Mr. Powers Is a singer of great
ability and force.

Celebrated in Pendleton With a
Program and Banquet.
Last night the 41st anniversary of
the order of Knights of Pythias, was
appropriately observed by the local
lodge, Damon No. 4. The first part
of the evening was given to work in
the third rank and three esquires, G.
W. Eyre, Louis La Dow and E. 8.
Isaucs, were given the work of that
rank. A number of visitors were
present In addition to the members
of the large local lodge.
Following the Initiatory ceremonies
a recess was taken and the ladies of
the Ruthbone Sisters and other in
vited guests were recelvedi The as
sembly was then called to order by
J. W. Maloney,, past grand chancellor
for Oregon, who explained the pur
pose of the gathering and presided
walle the following program was
given:
Address, "Principles of Pythian

quartet, Messrs. Lundell, Rader, Wil
son and White: "Pythlaniam as it

vocal solo, Miss Rena Ferguson; ad

The program was exceptionally well
arranged, and all the numbers were
enthusiastically received.
Following the program a banquet
was served in an adjoining room, and
the evening was thus pleasantly
brought to a close.

Knights of Pythias banquet last night,
H. H. Wright of Denver, Is the
guest of his old friend, A. B. Rags-
dale. After spending a few days
here he will go to Spokane, and ulti
mately prospect the entire Northwest.
W. H. H. Scott, of Athena, is In the
city today. He says It Is possible
that some of the wheat on the high
knolls is slightly Injured In that dis
trict, but not enough, perhaps, to be
noticeable.
C. C. Henderson, of Pilot Rock,
well known sheepman, is here on a
business visit. Sheep In that district
are in fine condition for the lambing
season and he expects fully 100 per
cent Increase in nearly every herd

Portland, and will remove from Sa
lem to Portland.

Requisition papers have been se

jail at Omaha for passing forged

Four other agencies are maintained In
Eastern Oregon by the Wind River
people. They are at Echo, Moro, Ir
rlgon and lone. All of these places
are In the wheat belt of Eastern Or
egon, In which times have been unu
sually good during the past few sea
sons.. From all the agencies the re
port Is received of indications of a
