A 'Burling ton passenger train, waa thundering through the darkness on Its way from McCook to St. Louis late last night, while the engineer sat upright In his seat, with his hand gripping the throt tle, dead. The engineer was James O'Connell. The train had reached a point some distance from here and was running at a high rate of speed, when the fireman happened to glance at the engineer and observed that a pallor had overspread his face and that his body appeared rigid. The fireman went over and touched the engineer and was shocked to discover that he waa dead, and evidently had been dead for a number of minutes. The fireman ran the train back to McCook, and, when another engineer had been supplied It went on to St. Louis. Had the engineer's death not been discovered and the train stop ped before it reached a station it was approaching. It would have col lided with a train coming from the opposite direction and lives would possibly have been sacrificed. Welcome Bishop Cranston. Washington, Oct. 2i. In Foundry M.
