WORLD'S RECORD LOWERED.
New -rsry Woman Seta a New Pace
on the Typewriter.
Trenton. Oct. 31. The world's
typewriting record on actual practical
work has been broken by Mrs. Mar
garet Cunningham, stenographer in
the office of the supreme court here.
She wrote 21.089 words of a legal de
cision, requiring the utmost care, in
six and one-half hours actual time,
and not a single correction had to be
made on the 57 pages covered.
The record Is remarkable and dis
counts one made a short time ago in
the Washington patent office by Miss
Olive R. Cameron of Tennessee, who
wrote 32,000 words in a working day
of seven, and one-half hours, using
only one sheet at a time.
Mrs. Cunningham was compelled to
make eight manifold copies, which
necessitated handling MS sheets of
paper and 399 carbon sheets, nearly
eight times as many as used by Miss
Cameron. Mrs. Cunningham has been
highly complimented not only by the
justices of the court, but by the whole
staff of attaches.
GItOVER CLEVELAND SPEAKS.
Will Preside Over Business Men's
Parker League.
New Tork, Oct. 21. There was an
unusual air of bustle about the dem
ocratic headquarters toduy caused by
the activity in completing arrange
ments for the mass meeting in Car
negie hall tonight, under the auspices
of the Business Men' Parker and Da
vis Association. The announcement
that former President Grover Cleve
land Is to preside has caused more
interest to be taken In the demonstra
tion than has attached to any of the
political rallies held in New Tork so
far during the present campaign.
Though the former president has
made It plain that he does not intend
to deliver a speech It is generally ex
pected that he will have a few words
to say In expression of his views on
the issues of the present campaign
and of endorsement for the national
ticket. The principal address of the
evening will be delivered by John G.
Carlisle, ex-secretary of the treasury.

Paxnengcr Engineer Sat Vprhrlit In
Ills Cab, Stone Read, for Miles.
McCook. Neb.. Oct. 21. A 'Burling
ton passenger train, waa thundering
through the darkness on Its way from
McCook to St. Louis late last night,
while the engineer sat upright In his
seat, with his hand gripping the throt
tle, dead.
The engineer was James O'Connell.
The train had reached a point some
distance from here and was running
at a high rate of speed, when the
fireman happened to glance at the
engineer and observed that a pallor
had overspread his face and that his
body appeared rigid. The fireman
went over and touched the engineer
and was shocked to discover that he
waa dead, and evidently had been
dead for a number of minutes.
The fireman ran the train back to
McCook, and, when another engineer
had been supplied It went on to St.
Louis. Had the engineer's death not
been discovered and the train stop
ped before it reached a station it
was approaching. It would have col
lided with a train coming from the
opposite direction and lives would
possibly have been sacrificed.

THE GREATEST EPOCH
OF MARRIAGE
The first it the most crucial time.
If for the first time the greatest
event in your married fives is about
to occur, how expectant, how wrapt
up in it you find yourselves.
Yon try to overlook, but in Tain,
that element of uncertainty and dan
ger that you have been led to expect
from the experience of those mothers
and fathers who have struggled
throueh this ordeal in ignorance of
Mother's Friend
what it is. and what it does.
If at this time every expectant man
and wife might know of this greatest
of boons, devised for the ei areas
purpose of alleviating and disp jling
the suffering and consequent danger
of chila-omh. how quickly would all
doubt and worry be dissipated.
Mother's Friend is an invaluable
liniment for external massage, through
whose potent agency countless moth
ers have been enabled to experience
the joy of parturition for the first
time without danger to themselves or
their off-spring.
