GOLD HILL, OREGON Problems Of Contonment Discussed Estman Accept« Position In Sheridan School John Essmun, athletic director and (curlier in the Gold Hill high school for (lie pust four years, has accepted a position in the high school at Sheridan, Oregon for the coming year. Mr. Essmun will roach uthlelics and leach Shop I und II. Mr. und Mrs. Essmun und Dar lene left Sunday for Olympia, Washington where they will spend the summer. They will move to Sheridan in September. Mr. Essmun was re-hired to re turn to Gold Hill for next year and was offered a substantial raise in salary. The community regrets losing the Essmans but their many friends here are happy to know of Mr. Essmun's advancement to a larger school. Recreation M eetings T o Be H eld In Gold H ill •Mrs. Jacqueline B. Jones, Home Demonstration agent in Medford writes that ut the request of the Gold Hill group in regard to the recreation meetings to be held In Gold Hill, Miss Jensen will be able to meet with the grouo the third Tuesday of each month. At present she will be able to give three meetings in this community, then if leaders wish to conduct other meetings here they may. The local group might join with Medford for the other meetings. Mrs. Jones will leave for Cor vallis June 13 and the situation will be more fully discussed then. In the meantime if anyone wishes to see her about the matter she will be glad to discuss it at her office in the court house. Students Given Athletic Awards Students of the Gold Hill high school received their athletic awards at an assembly held Thurs day morning in the study hall, the final day of the 1940-41 school term. John Estman, coach, pre sented the awards to the boys. Sen iors receiving letters were given a letter in each sport in which they earned it and the other students were given one letter for the year with a certificate for each sport in which they earned the letter. Basketball letters and the num ber of stripes were as follows: Del mar Chapman 4, Kelly Clement 3, Creighton Thompson 3, Tom Hen derson 3, Buzz Shoemaker 3, Harlow Banry 1, Joe Smith 1, Don Fergu son 1, Jim Martin 1, Donald Wolff 1. The girls awards are given on a point sys tem with the numeral for first year; letter, second year; pin, third year and pin with star for fourth year.
