The scientists in that laboratory have rituied up a radio apparatus, at tached to a loudspeaker which is »0 delicate that it can detect the flight of eleetnns through the ether I held the dial of my wrist watch against the microphone. The fi gures are radium coated. And I could hear the electrons pounding into the loudspeaker like a show er of hailstones on a tin roof. On another floor I sat in front of a motion picture screen and s..\v talking movies of three great scientists of England. Sir Ernest Kutherford. Sir William Henry Nr“.£g, and Sir Oliver Lodge. Each one of them was photo graphed in his own laboratory. Each proceeded Io perform certain experiments and explain them. It was thrilling to sit in the living presence of such men and to think how valuable those pictures will he Io future j. iterations. NOT SO LONG UNTIL SCHOOL BELLS RING “It won’t be long now,” is an appropriate expression as applied to the opening of the county schools. Within two weeks most of the county schools will be in opera tion and within three weeks all will be in operation with the possibe exception of some extreme cases. The summer's vacation has faded fast and the bogie of school days again faces the younger folks, but they will be ready to go back to the routine and discipline which the schools exact for they have had an opportunity to enjoy the pleasures and joys of the great outdoors. Their minds may be a little slow and their memory a trifle rusty at first but a few days and everything will assume their normal state and the teachers, will then divide time with the parents in the care of the district’s children. • AIMEE AND MOTHER QUARREL It has been some time since Aimee McPherson or Ma Kennedy has made the first page so they staged a bout down in Los Angeles from which they both.emerged with more or less mutilation. There is one thing we cannot understand about our county seat papers and that is this. Why should their policy be so narrow and selfish that they cannot permit the names of any of the neighboring towns to receive Classified Ads Get Results mention in their newspapers other than when the item might lead to their injury or depreciation. If two hundred years ago anybody had predicted the marvels that can be seen there today, the God-fearing citizens of (he time would have burned him as a witch. For example, as you know, the metal radium is constantly giving off little particles which are called electrons. The electron is infin itely smaller than the atom. In deed, the atom is a comparatively big proposition, a sort of universe with lots electrons flying around inside it. , These three Guernseys, awarded high honors al Ihe 1929 exposition, will be returned thia year by M.
