Of course, neither the electron

instruments which we have yet de

The
scientists in that laboratory have

I held the dial of my wrist watch
against the microphone. The fi

could hear the electrons pounding
into the loudspeaker like a show

On another floor I sat in front
of a motion picture screen and

scientists of England. Sir Ernest
Kutherford. Sir William Henry

Each one of them was photo

Each proceeded Io perform certain
experiments and explain them. It

In fact there are probably few people who realize that
at die November election there will be at least thirteen
measures and constitutional amendments for the people
to vote upon.
These measures are very important to
the people of the state of Oregon.

NOT SO LONG
UNTIL SCHOOL BELLS RING
“It won’t be long now,” is an appropriate expression
as applied to the opening of the county schools. Within
two weeks most of the county schools will be in opera
tion and within three weeks all will be in operation with
the possibe exception of some extreme cases.
The summer's vacation has faded fast and the bogie
of school days again faces the younger folks, but they
will be ready to go back to the routine and discipline
which the schools exact for they have had an opportunity
to enjoy the pleasures and joys of the great outdoors.
Their minds may be a little slow and their memory a
trifle rusty at first but a few days and everything will
assume their normal state and the teachers, will then
divide time with the parents in the care of the district’s
children.

AIMEE AND MOTHER
QUARREL
It has been some time since Aimee McPherson or
Ma Kennedy has made the first page so they staged a
bout down in Los Angeles from which they both.emerged
with more or less mutilation. Aimee was said to be
blind in one eye which report was refuted but her phy
sicians claim she is suffering from a nervous breakdown.
Ma is nursing a broken nose as a result of the fisticuffs.
W hat a host of sins are committed in the name of
Christianity.
What are the followers of these women
going to think of their display of brotherly1 love.
With all their claim of inspiration they still follow
the brute instincts of the profane.

There is one thing we cannot understand about our
county seat papers and that is this. Why should their
policy be so narrow and selfish that they cannot permit
the names of any of the neighboring towns to receive Classified Ads Get Results
mention in their newspapers other than when the item
might lead to their injury or depreciation. And why
this' policy is particularly carried out when some impor
tant industrial move is made by the outlying towns.
The county seat papers seem to have a sort of jealous
disposition.
If their stories cannot glorify their own
city they do not care to mention any other cities.

WISE MEN
I spent a (lay in the research
laboratories of the largest electric
al company in the world. If two
hundred years ago anybody had
predicted the marvels that can be
seen there today, the God-fearing
citizens of (he time would have
burned him as a witch.
For example, as you know, the
metal radium is constantly giving
off little particles which are called
electrons. The electron is infin
itely smaller than the atom. In
deed, the atom is a comparatively
big proposition, a sort of universe
with lots electrons flying around
inside it.
