THE GRANGE IN OREOOH AND WASHINGTON. In two weeks more tho annual meet ing of tho State Grange will take place, here in Salem, and the report .of the condition pf things will bo encouraging. Our worthy State Lecturer confidently asserts that the increase of membership in this jurisdiction will average sis hun dred new names. Quite a number of dormant Oranges have Ixxm revived and some now ones added. Wo have always felt tho usefulness of tho Grange and wished tho farmers of the country could lie so persuaded to view it that they would work for the good of tho order, and that is essentially for their own good. It can only achieve the highest results when-all tho people who follow agriculture j:in it nnd labor for tluir best good through its organization by tho co-operation that it renders possible. Union is strength." Without being or g'aniied we, the farmers of the country ( cannot make our strength felt and re- spocted. Let us organize for success, nnd wo hnvo it already accomplished. It would require columns of space sim ply to sum up tho advantages tho farmers of tho country can accomplish if organ ized for co-operation. There is not an item in a farmer's experience that cannot be improved by it. Small savings make vast foi tunes. Instoid of saving twenty five per cent, on purchases and sales, to save five per cent, will soon mako the farmer of tho country rich, but they don't scorn to rcnlizo it. Tell them they can fcave five per cent, and many laugh you to scorn, but they have only to work together for the certain gain they can realize to soon becomo independent of money lenders. But it is not alone to save or to gain, tho Grange oilers oppoitunity to teach nnd to learn. Tho social feature is be yond value and tho educational feature is most valuable. Meeting once or twice a month for mutual advico and relating experience is not a wate of time, but a saving, in many 'respects. It makes friends of more neighbors, and co-opeia-tion brings into business relations those who convey interesting information as well as receive it. Co-operation is valu able as teaching us all business meth ods. Work in tho Grange teaches par liamentary usages. Talking of practical matters in tho Grango brings up facts that interest and benefit every one. Then, if well organized, the Grange can put a quietus on the ambition of any man in politics, who is lacking in true principles. Ho can bo defeated "and nevei know what hurt him." This will be the twelfth year of tho Grango in Oiegon, and it is time it be gan a new life and started afiesh. The great incroaso of population should help it. No doubt thousands come here who were Patrons in their old homes. These should be invited within the gates and made welcome to tho old order in tho new land. They will bring fresh ideas and no doubt sound principles, and will appreciate finding such friends fo far away from their early homes. There is another matter of importance that wo have suggested without even a response. This jurisdiction covers a conutry five hundred miles square. Or egon, Washington, and Idaho are com prised in it. The growth and develop ment of that eastern country need recog nition in some form by tho Grango, as undor present organization thero is very little Grango growth or spirit east of tho Cascades. If that country had a separate organization, as it needs and requires, better results wOuld follow than we can possibly expect under present conditions. Of course, we do not wish to get rid of our friends over there, but wo wish to see them prosper and believe they can do so to better advantage, if eo organized as to possess a State Grange, to include the Inland Empire, well so called. The mountains could be the dividing line, and one State Grange with all Grange interests to tho west and an other to the east. Wo aro not opinion ated, and have no possible interest ex cept "the good of the order." We bo liove that requires less area within a sin gle jurisdiction, so that local interests can bo prominent and the same kind of country be comprised within one juris diction. Thero is now too much diver sity, too much difference, too sparso a membership, and too little inducement for activity. It is a matter, however, that can be safoly left for the brethren east of tho Cascades to decide for themselves. Annual Meeting of the Oregon State Orange. Hariusduko, Or., May 8, 1884. This class of diseases so common in all parts of tho World, and especially prevalent in ma larious districts and vicinage of water-courses, are almost invariably accompanied by moru or less derangement of the Hicr, and frequently by a defective action of tho digestif o organs. The mere breaking of the Chill is but a step towards completing a radical euro; the various orgtns of tho body, especially tho stomach and liver, must be brought to a healthy and igor ous condition before a permanent cure cm be ctublishcd, and this fact has been specially fcept in viow by Dr. Jayne in his treatment of theso complaints. Tho use of Jayno's Aguo Mixture, in conjunction with Jayno's Sanative Tills, as preserlbed in the Directions nbich accompany cah bottle, will not only BREAK UP THE CHILLS, but restore the system, more particularly the liver and stomach, to a sound condition, and so prevent a relapse uf Fever and Ague by thor oughly ERADICATING THE DISEASE, and the best evidence of this is the Invariable success which has always followed the admin istration of these remedies, as attested by the certificates published annually in Dr. Jayce's Almanac, and the wide-spread popularity of the Ague Mixture in those districts of the United States, where the diseases, for which it if ldnptcd, most prevail.
