CLKAUlt.WII'JbU.IJ aliiuTimarti, l'ul. letjou mattrr, i-leaied yestenlay for Qitms town tU bl.WO l'iilit : wheat. We take the following from tho San Fran, cisco Commercial Herald of October I2th : The rainy season appears to have come upon us in good 'earnest, some 2J inches of rain having already fallen, which is far moie than usual at this date. Tho grass is now. coming forward rapidly, and it is londiy hoped that it may continue to grow, so aa to afford needed nourishment for the cattle and sheep upon a thousand hills. The damage in flicted by this heavy and unexpected rainfall throughout the State has been greater than at first supposed. Large quantities of wheat, barloy, hay and beans have been injured seri ously, and not a little past redemption. This damage to the crops baa had more or less in fluence in strengthening the markets for both spot and futures, notably of barley, which lias been largely dealt in at the Call Boards, and at advancing prices. Wheat continues in good roqucst for export, and is likely so to con tinuo for a long time to come, owing to the large tonnage supply and low rates of freight. Millers continue to find more or less dilliculty in securing all the extra choice white wheat requisite for the manufacture of fancy brands of flour. The impression is growing that the barley crop of the State has been over esti mated, dealcis losing sight o( the fact that largo tracts of land across tho bay and at Santa Cruz, heretofore producing largely of barley, are now cut up into small farms and devoted to fruit culture. Oats aro in light supply and the market is firm. There is some speculative inquiry for beans. Hops nro too high to bo operated in with safety. Kyo is coming here quite irteiy irom reorasKa Dy rhil. Corn is quiet snd without movement. A few small lots of new crops have teen offered on 'Change. Hay ol choico quality is scarce, not a littlo injured by the rains. The ship Yorktowu, for Liverpool, carries 1,018 cases honey, Our dairymen aro considerably exercised at tho efforts making hero to intro- luco at an early day oleomargarine, a- com pany of capitalists having incorporated for its manufacture in this city, and it will soon be offered in marl-et here to compote with infe rior butter. Wool is in fair request. The rail roads havo made a further reduction on all defective wools under a valuo of 12J cent! I J cents per pound. This reduction will help sonic. Hides and tallow continue in good re quest. Poultry and gmo are in fiir Mipply. Butter of choico quality is scarce. Ejjga rulo hich for rnncli. Cheese is plentiful and cheap. The market continue to bo well supplied with all seasonable varieties of fruits aud vege tal ilcs. Tomatoes have long been in excessive supply. Grapes for tho wino press arrive freely, and sell readily at $30 to 32 50 per ton for common, and $40 for Zinfamlel. During tho mouth of Sopteinber forty-one vessels cloared for Europe, cinying 1,63S,ECG centals of wheat, 31,507 bairels of flour and 49,713 centals of liarley. KKIKUIITM AMI CIIAHTKR.S. Arrivals aro free, causing a continued ac cumulation of tonnage. Thu quotation for ships to Europe is 42s 0d45s for wood and iron respectively. A dozen or moro vessels have boon taken during this week within tin's range. The discngsged fleet hero and at ports adjacent approximates S3, 000 tons, as agaiust '10,000 tons a year ago. Tho Hect to arrive within fivo months, 231,000 tons regis ter; one year ago, 392,000 tons; in 18S0, 218,. 000 toi s. Wheat Thu market for both spot and fu turHis8troni, with a good export requirement. Speculators purchase futures more freely sinco the rains. Tho Queen of the Pacific -from Oregon, brought 4,485 sks. . Tho receipts of wheat arq not equal to those of lust year by considerable. Export aro liberal with n targe licet on tho berth. We quote No, I spot, at $1 05; No. 2, $1 02J. Extra choice milling, $1 67 i V ctl. Exporters continue to purchase freely iu the iutcrior, aud this inter feres very materially with sample sales upon Change as waa heretofore the custom. Barley The exports of barley by sea are very much greater this year than last. It is an admitted fact that cousiderable grain on tin maim aud elsewhore has been greatly injured by the rams, and farther that tho o op in tho bay couuties is very much less than formerly. Arizona is drawing heavily upon the southern counties fur feed grain. All these thiugs add strength to the market. Quotations rule, $1 20 to $1 31 t' ceuUl for November delivery. Flour. Tho spnt market is firm. Sperry'a Stockton City Mills has been rebuilt with all the improvement if the ag, aud ti now run. ulug full time on export order. The Biitish baric Val li U carries to England 10,320 bbls pttent Hour, shipped by M. C Ellis Jt Son, valued nt $S0,71K ami the Celestial Empire. for Liverpool, with 0,00(1 bbls. F. The Queen of the Pacific brought 5,941 hf sks. The Paradox, for Sydney, car ries 500 tons flour. The present price of ship ping extrss is $5 25 to 5 50; extra superfine, $4 70 to $5; superfine, $4 to 4 50 P 100 lbs, all in cloth. Hides. We quote as follows : Heavy salted steers, 10 to lie f lb, light talted hides, cows and steel s, 30 to 45 lbs, 9c; medi um do, 45 to 55 lbs, 10c; salted kips, 10 to He; salted calf, good -demand for plump skins, 14 to 15c; hair goat, sound skins, 65 to 70c; medium, 50c; small skins and kid, 5c to 25c each; deer skins, good summer, 35 to 37ic; medium, long hair, 25 to 30c; poor and winter skins, 20c; sheep skins, shearlings, 25 to 30c; short wool, 30 to 50c; medium wool, 60o to $1; long wool, $1 to 1 50; dry hide;, usual selection, 20c; dry kip, 18c;docalf,21 to 22c. Hops Tho profits of hop-growiBg in Cali fornia have been so large this year that many persons are likely to be drawn into the busi ness. The price of bops is subject to great variations, owing to the frequent failure of crops in hop-growing countries. This price has been unusually stiff this year, ao one sell ing his crop for less than fifty cents a pound in New York State, where hops are largely grown. Uamormans who may be preparing to embark in the business should remember that the price is likely to be much lower next year. The following table of prices for the last sev enteen years is from a recent compilation in Utica Herald : Selling! price, 60 c VESSELS OX WAT TO CAMPOBSJIA New York) VESSEL. TONS. RATE. COSSIONEr.
