M U N I T Y PHOTO BY SUSAN FRIED Pancake Breakfast at Peninsula Park Union Gospel Mission served 1,287 Thanksgiving meals to the homeless and people in need last week, running over the number of meals they expected to serve – 1,000. Over 200 volunteers prepared and served in a 120 foot tent in front of Union Gospel Mission on NW Third Avenue between Burnside and Couch streets. Guests also enjoyed live music and received hygiene kits and snack packs. A family organized a blanket drive and gave away over 1,000 blankets to guests, which was an unexpected, but welcome surprise for guests as they departed the meal.
