Holiday Cheer Needed
for Northeast Schools
The Northeast Backpack Lunch
Program, which serves needy stu-
dents at Northeast Portland’s King,
Harvey Scott, and Woodlawn
schools, is seeking donations to pro-
vide families with turkeys and hams
for the holidays.
Over the next month, the Back-
pack Lunch Program hopes to
provide each family that is part of
the program with a ham or turkey. If
you are interested in donating a
turkey or ham, or would like to
make a cash contribution to cover
the cost of a turkey ham, contact
Alan at Fremont United Methodist
Church. Donations are tax
deductible; the church’s telephone
number is 503-284-4647.

Pancake Breakfast at
Peninsula Park
Union Gospel Mission served 1,287 Thanksgiving meals to the homeless
and people in need last week, running over the number of meals they
expected to serve – 1,000. Over 200 volunteers prepared and served in
a 120 foot tent in front of Union Gospel Mission on NW Third Avenue
between Burnside and Couch streets. Guests also enjoyed live music
and received hygiene kits and snack packs. A family organized a
blanket drive and gave away over 1,000 blankets to guests, which was
an unexpected, but welcome surprise for guests as they departed the
meal.
