Briefs Wellness Village Moves to Ambridge Cente The African American Health Coalition’s 16th Annual Wellness Village has a new home and a new look. This year, the Wellness Village will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.at the Ambridge Events Center, 1333 NE MLK Jr. Blvd Portland. You’ll find the same amazing volunteer health experts, to take your blood pressure, measure your cholesterol and give you the best information and testing available. Sure you can still get flu shots and diabetes tests, and learn about every- thing from acupuncture to vision problems. But you’ll also find some great new games and activities that offer fun for the whole family. Seniors will find special information designed to support wellness in the silver years. Watch a fashion show featuring great designs with the African American woman in mind. Shake your booty with a zumba dance lesson. All-age activities include: face painting; arts and crafts; Minute to Win It!; PlayStation Kinect; a Domino competi- tion; Bingo; the Price is Right; a hair, fashion and makeup show; and tasty cooking demos and tastings. Free dental Care Nov. 21, 22 Mark your calendar, if you need free dental care. The Oregon Dental Association will host their second annu- al Mission of Mercy event starting at 6 a.m Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 21 and 22 at the Oregon Convention Center. Mission of Mercy is a dental clinic with portable dental sta- tions set up in a large public arena. Dental screenings and services are provided on a first-come, first-served basis, at no charge to those who attend. Hundreds of dentists, den- tal hygienists, dental assistants, dental lab technicians and an array of volunteers offer their time and skills at no charge to provide these free dental services. Portland Financial Planning day If you are ready to get your finances in order you might want to check out Portland Financial Planning Day. Organized by the mayor’s office the event is an opportuni- ty to get free, unbiased financial planning advice. Dozens of Portland area Financial Planners have volunteered to offer free one-on-one counseling and seminars on budget- ing, income taxes, investment strategies, mortgages , fore- closures, retirement planning, and more. Workshops throughout the day will focus on financing college; retirement and surviving job loss. All advice will be offered on a “no strings attached” basis and planners will not give out business cards or sell finan- cial products or services.
