Potato Shipments High Last Month SALEM fUPD Potatoes out numbered all other agricultural commodities checked by ship ping point inspection stations in Oregon during March, the De partment of Agriculture reports. Total shipments for the month were 3,304 carlots, with 1,958 of these potatoes. Onions account ed for 616 carlots and pears with 477 carlots. at the Bethel Fire Station. He succeeds Vern L. Richards. Rusher, publisher ef National Review and former counsel to the U.S. Senate In ternal Security Subcommittee, will make three speaking ap pearances at the University of Oregon next Wednesday. Rusher, whose visit to the university is sponsored by the Student Union Forum Commit tee and the University Young Republicans club, will speak at a luncheon meeting of the Polit ical Science Club at 12 noon in the Erb Memorial Student Union. He will also talk at an in formal coffee hour in the Stu dent Union at 2:30 p.m. and at 4 p.m. will give a public lecture in the Union. His public address topic will be "A Conservative's Strategy lor the Cold War." He will dis cuss conservative criticism of America's foreign policy and give answers to the liberal query of "Well, what would you do?" At the luncheon, Rusher will speak on "How Much Academic Freedom?" In this talk he will discuss the question of Commu nist teachers, of a solid academ 'ic grounding in certain truths, and of policy in America's class rooms. Rusher is a graduate of Prince ton University who received his law degree from Harvard j Law School. He has had three , civilian careers as a practising ! attorney in the litigation depart ment of Wall Street's largest j law firm, as an associate coun- j sel to the Senate subcommittee investigating domestic Commu-1 msm, and as publisher of Na tional Review, America's lead ing conservative magazine. In 1955 Rusher served as special counsel to the finance committee of the New York State Senate, investigating the appointees of Gov. Averell Har riman. In his work with the U.S. Senate subcommittee he has participated in hundreds of pub lic and secret hearings through out the country. In this same position he prepared the way for the subcommittee's hearings in Honolulu.
