At 6 p.m., on Channels 13 and 8, Chet Huntley, Merrill Muel ler, Hugh Downs and ''at Fon taine will conduct a tour of the Automobile Show's seven-acre spread in Detroit's Cobo Hall. New models o cars and trucks by all the automobile manufac turers, exhibits of vehicle safety and discussions of future de signs in cars highlight the "44th National Automobile Show." At 9:30 on Channel 9 and 10:30 on Channel 12, "Howard K. Smith" features the subject "Is the American Car a Necessity or a Luxury?" Discussing the design, safety and function of the newest models on the mar ket with Smith are a designer, manufacturer, editor, publicist and author. Other Sunday previews: 11:30 a.m, Politics '62 (9) Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower is asked the same general question put to Presi dent Kennedy last week on the 1962 campaign issues. 13 p.m.. Direction '63 (9) In this continued study of com munism and Christianity, clergy men discuss and evaluate activi ties of the extreme right wing in handling the Communist threat. 4:30 p.m., KVAL News Spe cial (13) Live discussion with members of the Fraternal Order of Lumbermen on forest pro ducts industry and its import ance to the Oregon economy will be presented.
