Technology Course De-Emphasized Dairymen May Stop OSU Scholarship Oregon's dairy industry will receive a recommendation not to grant its usual $1,000 scholar ship this year to help support a student in dairy technology at Oregon State University. The Education Committee of the Oregon Dairy Industries made the decision, according to Ellis "Hap" Racklcff, chairman, of Eugene, "mainly because of the de-emphasis in the course of dairy technology" at OSU. He said the committee did not wish to extend its commit ments into another four-year period "in view of present trends." Three students now at tending OSU under the dairy industry scholarships will con tinue to receive aid, however, so long as they continue to qualify. Rackleff said the course of dairy technology will become a part of the food technology de partment at Oregon State Uni versity at the close of this year. The Education Committee of the Oregon Dairy Industries is a non-profit organization sup ported by the state's commer cial dairies. Racklcss has been a member of the committee since the program started. He said it is his personal opinion that all the Pacific Northwest institutions may find it necessary to get togeth er and form one regional dairy technology school "to keep down per student costs and to maintain a degree of specializa tion useful to the industry." Boys, 13-14 Roger Bennett, North Eugene Track Club; Bob Kirk, Boy Scouts of America. Girls 15-16 Mary Jean Hcym YWCA; Terry Cullver, YWCA Boys 15-16 George Archer, FFA; Terry Burbee, YMCA.
