Model Coming A duplicate of the Freedom 7 Mercury Spacecraft will be dis played in Eugene Saturday and Sunday, June 2-3, as part of a U.S. Savings Bond drive exhibit. The model will be displayed In Eugene during a tour through Oregon, reported the U.S. Treasury Savings Bond Committee. During the bond dive in May and June, each U.S. citizen is asked to buy an extra savings bond. The model will be displayed at Lew Williams Chevrolet, 2020 Franklin Blvd. It will be open to the public from 3 p.m. stand ard, 4 p.m. daylight, to 11 p.m. standard, midnight daylight, on June 2. On Sunday, June 3, the cap sule will be on display in Eu gene from 7 a.m. standard, 8 a.m. daylight, to 11 a.m. stand ard, noon daylight. The Freedom 7 capsule model is identical to the one that car ried America's first astronauts into space. It is mounted on a red, white and blue trailer, flanked by two American flags. The exhibit will include a pub lic address system, with docu mentary recordings on Ameri ca's first manned space flights. The McDonnell Aircraft Corp., which designed and built the Mercury capsules for the Na tional Aeronautics and Space Administration, donated the cap sule to the Treasury Dept. for Its Freedom Bond Drive. The Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors is providing the truck and trailer on which the capsule is mounted. Deputies Arrest Man On Lincoln Warrant Raymond Wilbur Martin, 61, of no known permanent address, was arrested by sheriff's depu ties early Sunday morning on a warrant from Lincoln County. Martin is accused of obtaining money under false pretenses in the Lincoln County warrant. He was arrested at the Motor Vu Drive-In Theater in Springfield about 12:45 a.m. Sunday after an informant called the sheriff's office. Money Taken From Church Seven young women in the Eugene First Christian church choir told Eugene police Sun day evening that someone stole a total of about $30 from their purses while they were singing. The money was taken from purses left in another part of the church while the choir was singing between 9 and 9:45 p.m. daylight Sunday. Seven other thefts were re ported to local police agencies over the weekend: William 0. Bryan, 2495 W. 23rd Ave., Eugene, and Charles A. Byers, 624 E. 17th Ave., Eu gene, both reported that tran sistor radios were stolen from their parked cars in separate in cidents. The radios were worth $40 and $65. Mrs. Clifford Cameron, 132 Lawrence St., Eugene, told state police that someone stole $35 from her purse in a parked pickup at Ponsler Park north of Sea Lion Caves on Highway 101 Saturday. Budget Hearing Set for Tonight A public hearing on the pro posed 1962-63 budget of Eugene Rural Fire District No. 1, totaling $10,862, will be held to night at 7:30 p.m. standard, 8:30 p.m. dayligh. at the home of Phillip J. Campa, 1010 Crest Dr. According to Mrs. Carl R. Pfeif fer, clerk of the district, no election will be necessary be cause the amount to be raised through taxation $9,562 is within the constitutional 6 per cent limitation. The fire district, which con tracts with the Eugene Fire De partment for protection, covers all of College Crest and Haw kins Hill water districts and the northern half of Hillcrest Water District. Eugene police said that Cable was driving the car when the accident happened about 7:45 p.m. daylight Sunday at Cable's Restaurant on Sixth Avenue be tween High and Mill streets. The police report said the auto was moving west on Sixth when it attempted to turn left into the parking lot, skidded for 77 feet, and rammed one of the posts that supports the restau rant's advertising sign. The police report indicated that Cable and Mrs. Fleming suf fered possible skull fractures plus lacerations, and that Flem ing suffered a fractured right arm and lacerations.
