The request was adopted at Monday night's meeting of super visors of the West Central Lane Soil Conservation District, Chair- j man Charles V. Lilcs reports. 1 The monthly session of the dis trict's supervisors also resulted ! in drafting of a letter of appre ciation for 0. S. Fletcher, retir ing Lane County extension agent, i William A. Potter was reap pointed for another three-year I term as a district supervisor at this meeting, following receipt of approval of his nomination from the State Soil Conservation Committee. The meeting also brought re ports that sou surveys in the month preceding had covered 7,- 000 acres, bring the total acre age surveyed to date to 36,000. It was further noted that engineer ing assistance on irrigation dam, drainage problems, ditch con struction and similar undertak ings was given to 22 farmers in Ihe West Central Lane District during the month. Walsh, the agency's county supervisor announced this week. Plans are to make Farm Safety Week a continuing program so that "every week will be a safe ty week." Portland Man New Tarzan HOLLYWOOD, Calif. m-The new Tarzan of the films is Gor don Werschkul, 25, a native of Portland, Werschkul, whose film name is Gordon Scott, was selected Tuesday by Producer Sol Lesser from a group of 15 contenders for the role. Lesser offered the muscular young man a screen test after he was spotted in a newsreel shot at Las Vegas, .Nov., hotel swimming pool where he was working as a life guard. Werschkul becomes the 11th man to be cast as Tarzan since the first of the film scries was cast In 1918.
