Sherm Lollar's two-run homer in the seventh was the big blow. Foster Saw took another impor tant step on its quest for a sec ond straight Women's League Softball championship when the Sawyerettes trimmed their near est rival, Willamette Electric, 9-2 Saturday night. That victory gave Foster a stronger grip on the lead with its fifth straight nod and second in a row over the Oakridge gals. Warren Hardware, moved to third place by nipping the Po lice Assn. 12-11, while M&K Fur niture won its first game, 12-5 from Eugene Merchants. Another 1953 champion, Snell strom Lumber, continued un checked with a last-ditch 4-3 win over the Active Club, while Ken dall Motors handed River Road Merchants their first defeat in Minor "B" action by a 6-5 count. After an opening scare, Fos ter took command of its contest and was never headed in taking a surprisingly easy decision. Wil lamette Electric loaded the bases with none out in the first at bats, but the next three hitters all popped out to start Linda Walker on the way to her fourth pitch ing victory. The game went only five innings. Two walks, a hit batter and Susan Heacock's double gave Fos ter a 2-0 lead in its half of the first frame while Joyce Boentgen singled in a tally in the second. Singles by Darlene Peake, Wanda Conner, Maridell Linster and Heacock in the third helped run! me bulge to 8-1, and Oakridge couldn't make this up. Boentgen, Peake and Heacock all had two hits apiece for the winners, while Carolyn Sage and Bev Saxon rapped out two safeties for Wil lamette Electric. Hits by Nancy Gales, Donette Lopuson, and Linda Lillard plus two errors gave Warren's four runs in the bottom of the sixth to overcome an 11-8 Police lead. The losers had scored six times I in their half to move in front. ! Gates and Lopuson hit twice for I Warren's as did Kay Atkinson, I Louise Campbell and Lenore Glenn for the Police women. M&K unloaded with eight runs i in the bottom of the fifth inning lo overcome the Merchants. Dar lene Gadsden, Ethel Lee, Bunny Whitworth, and Vivian Norris un loaded hits in the big frame. Lee collected three hils for the night while Gadsden and Norris had a pair each. Ed Dell's single and Bill Cooley's triple gave the Active Club a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh frame, but Snellstrom came back for the decision on a hit batter, an error, plus singles by Cliff Brown and Ron Snell strom.
