Foster Saw took another impor
tant step on its quest for a sec
ond straight Women's League
Softball championship when the
Sawyerettes trimmed their near
est rival, Willamette Electric, 9-2
Saturday night. That victory gave
Foster a stronger grip on the
lead with its fifth straight nod
and second in a row over the
Oakridge gals.
Warren Hardware, moved to
third place by nipping the Po
lice Assn. 12-11, while M&K Fur
niture won its first game, 12-5
from Eugene Merchants.
Another 1953 champion, Snell
strom Lumber, continued un
checked with a last-ditch 4-3 win
over the Active Club, while Ken
dall Motors handed River Road
Merchants their first defeat in
Minor "B" action by a 6-5 count.
After an opening scare, Fos
ter took command of its contest
and was never headed in taking a
surprisingly easy decision. Wil
lamette Electric loaded the bases
with none out in the first at bats,
but the next three hitters all
popped out to start Linda Walker
on the way to her fourth pitch
ing victory. The game went only
five innings.
Two walks, a hit batter and
Susan Heacock's double gave Fos
ter a 2-0 lead in its half of the
first frame while Joyce Boentgen
singled in a tally in the second.
Singles by Darlene Peake, Wanda
Conner, Maridell Linster and
Heacock in the third helped run!
me bulge to 8-1, and Oakridge
couldn't make this up. Boentgen,
Peake and Heacock all had two
hits apiece for the winners, while
Carolyn Sage and Bev Saxon
rapped out two safeties for Wil
lamette Electric.
Hits by Nancy Gales, Donette
Lopuson, and Linda Lillard plus
two errors gave Warren's four
runs in the bottom of the sixth
to overcome an 11-8 Police lead.
The losers had scored six times

Glenn for the Police women.

lo overcome the Merchants. Dar
lene Gadsden, Ethel Lee, Bunny
Whitworth, and Vivian Norris un
loaded hits in the big frame. Lee
collected three hils for the night
while Gadsden and Norris had a
pair each.
Ed Dell's single and Bill
Cooley's triple gave the Active
Club a 3-2 lead in the top of the
seventh frame, but Snellstrom
came back for the decision on a
hit batter, an error, plus singles
by Cliff Brown and Ron Snell

banged out two base blows, while
