Forestry Meeting Set

annual meeting In Portland Sept.
6-9, State Forester George Spaur
announced Monday.
The delegates will spend three
of the four days on field trips
to the Tillamook Burn, Bonne
ville Dam, Mt. Hood, the coast,

- PORTLAND Wl The Northwest Public Power Assn. hopes to
have a program ready by Jan. 1, 1955, which would permit forma
tion of a regional corporation to develop Columbia Basin water
resources.
; A public corporation, similar to that proposed in the St.
Lawrence Seaway development corporation bill now before Con
gress is planned, the executive secretary of the association, Gus
Norwood, said.
The St. Lawrence bill, for construction of a seaway on the St.
Lawrence River between New York States and Canada, provides
for a regional corporation to furnish 50-year revenue bonds as
collateral for a 105-million dollar construction loan. The bonds
would be paid off in a 50-year period.
Norwood said he hopes all persons and agencies interested in
the Northwest's power problems
will submit recommendations so
that a similar bill dealing with
local power construction can be
submitted to the region's Con
gressional delegation by the first
of next year.
Injuries Prove Fatal
- BEND Iff) -Mrs. Lucy Jane
Craddock, 48, Twin Bridges,
Mont, who was injured in an
automobile collision near here
Wednesday, died in a hospital
Monday.
- She was a passenger in a car
driven by her husband, Ernest
L. Craddock, on a trip to visit
friends in Eugene, Ore. Crad
dock suffered only minor in
juries. The collision occurred at a
highway junction two miles
north of Bend. Norman C. John
son, driver of the other car, was
not hurt
eight engine companies fought
the flames which swept through
the interior of the one-story con
crete structure. No one was inside.
Loss was estimated at $65,000.
The interior was ruined.

Chicago, said Monday response to
his criticism of Sen. McCarthy
(R-Wis) has been 9 to 1 in the
bishop's favor.
Bishop Shell called McCarthy a
"phony" anti-Communist and as
serted his tactics undermined
democracy. He made the state
ments in a speech Friday before
the International Educational
Conference of the CIO United
Auto Workers.
The radio station that carried
Bishop Shells address twice on
Friday said its reaction was run
ning 20 to 1 in favor of the bishop.
