Jimmy Stewart June Allyson Click as Pair HOLLYWOOD (in Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson, a team as American and homey as flap jacks and syrup, soon will be decorating the nation's movie screens. Tony Mann, who has directed the gangling actor in six pictures, says Stewart and Allyson are a kind of Lunt-Fontanne pair that click together. MILLER ALBUM Tho new Glenn Miller memo rial album, is a beautiful re-issue of 70 popular classics the famed orchestra leader recorded before he disappeared on a flight from London to Pans just nine years ago. It's available either in LP or 45 rpm. The Welch Chorale has pressed a fine album of carols, one of the many in the Eugene and Spring field shops which also feature record players at low prices. Then, there's the most peren nial favorite, "White Christmas" by Bing Crosby, with "Rudolf, the Red-Nosed Reindeer" on the other side. The controversial Libcrace has a new group out this year, starring himself and featuring his brother's orchestra. For humor, there's a new Mel Blanc recording, "Yah, Das 1st Ein Christmas Tree," one one side, and "I Tan't Wait til Quith muth Day," and Jimmie Boyd's "I Saw Mama Kissing Santa Claus." NON-FICTION POPULAR In the book shops, non-fiction is preferred, with a continuing trend toward books on philoso phy, religion, history and biog raphy. Oregon authors are fea tured prominently this year: Stewart Holbrook's "Age of Moguls," a best-seller; Lucia Moore's "The Wheel and the Hearth,", and Olive Barber's "The Lady and the Lumberjack," which is being made into a movie. For children, the bird, dog and animal stamp books are favorites, which not only are fascinating, but educational. Colored pictures, in the form of stamps, are in the front of the book, to be cut out and pasted with stories about the animal or bird, elsewhere in the book. Christmas cards seem to get more attractive year by year, with the trend away from verses or sayings. However, Santa Claus and the Christmas tree still are the favorites, which would seem to indicate that the "old time" Christmas spirit is not obsolete, after all. The union is asking 12 cents an hour wage increase and a num ber of changes in contract terms. American. Can has offered an in crease of 10-12 cents an hour of which two cents would go for fringe benefits.
