It is not too late to get; started with the group, according to Mrs. Cox. who will present a special article on "Proteins, What and Why," at Wednesday's meet ing. Mrs. R. Sparks of Estacada, to Arnett B. Johnson, son of Mr, and Mrs. Evan S. John son of North Bend, Wash., Satur day, Dec. 22, at 8 p.m. The Rev. Arthur L. Hansen of Vancouver Ave. Methodist Church, Portland, read the ceremony. Miss Sparks attended the Uni versity of Oregon, and was a member of Alpha Phi. The bride groom, a Kappa Sigma at the university, now is a second lieu tenant in the U. S. Army. Given in marriage by her fath er, the bride wore a gown of white satin and lace and carried a white orchid on a prayer book. Mrs. Milton C. Sparks of Esta cada was matron of honor, and bridesmaids were Miss Evalyn Johnson of North Bend, a sister of the groom, and Miss Nancy Pollard of Los Gatos, Calif. Their full-length gowns were of peacock blue velvet, and they wore white flower bands in their hair, and carried pink and white roses in nosegay bouquets. Kathy La Plante of Estacada was flower girl. George P. Bell of Portland was best man, and ushers were Mil ton C. Sparks of Estacada, brother of the bride, Dale Bruegger,' Jack Countryman and James Hanns. Serving at the reception were Mrs. Jamie Bruegger, aunt of the groom, Mrs. John Sparks, and Mrs. Harry Furnish, aunt of the bride. The bride chose a purple suit and hat, black accessories and a gold coat for the wedding trip. The couple is now at home in Fort Lewis, Wash., where the groom is stationed. MISS LEONA KOHLER is en gaged to Harold Weeks, Jr., of Portland. They plan to be mar ried in the summer, when she has completed her studies at the university. Music Teachers Plan Workshop Plans for the first workshop of the season were completed at the January meeting of Eugene Dis trict, Oregon Music Teachers' As sociation, at the home of Miss Wanda Eastwood in the past week. The Workshop will be Jan. 23, Wednesday at 7 p.m., in the audi torium of Northwest Christian College, 11th and Kincaid Sts. The program will be divided into two sections, with younger musicians performing from 7 to 8 p.m.; older ones from 8 to 9. Voice, violin and piano will be repre sented. Mrs. H. A. Hagen is in charge of plans. Parents of pupils and also the public are invited to attend. Pu pils of the following teachers will play: Mrs. George Boughton, Mrs, R. Leslie has returned from a three week's trip to Kan sas where she was called by the death of her sister, Mrs. Mattie Blackford, at Hill City. She was accompanied on the train by two nephews, Wendell and Clair Blackford, and their wives of Al bany. The Blackford brothers are sons of the deceased. While in Kansas Mrs. Leslie vis isted her sister and family at El Dorado, a brother, and family at Hutchinson, and another sister at Beloit. At the latter place she was a guest at the homes of Mr. Les lie's twin sisters. " Pinochle Party Given Mr. and Mrs. Harry H. Dial Club Hears Talk Members of Dial Club heard a discussion of the use of color in decorating at their Tuesday dinner meeting in the Faculty Club. The talk was given by Mrs. Pat Boyle, and she illustrated it with pic tures and draperies. During the short business meet ing following, Mrs. Frances Red fern was elected to membership. The group presented a wedding gift of silver to Mrs. Frank Harr, a recently - married member. Twenty-five members attended with two guests, Miss Ruth Mur tha and Mrs. Harris Hurd. Miss Laura Bailey and Miss Mae Herves arranged the entertain ment. The group's next meeting will be Feb. 19 ' with Miss Hazel Stephenson and Mrs. Josophine Hayes in charge. Gifts Shown at Shower ! Feteing Delores Dowdy Miss Delores Dowdy, who will be married soon to Carl Lohner, was honored at a bridal shower Thursday afternoon given by Mrs. Lawrence Dowdy and Mrs. Ver non Parker at Mrs. Dowdy's home. The Girl Scout Junior High-In- termediate Planning Board, with a membership of 35 Girl Scout ; troops from Eugene, Springfield ! and vicinity will sponsor a Val entine Fashion show Feb. 2, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Wilson iunior , high school. Eighteen Girl Scouts j will serve as models and clothes 1 will be provided by the Junior : Miss Shop. Eugene and Spring-! field beauticians will create spe-j cial hairstyles for the models. ! The six Girl Scout troops at Wilson Junior High School will decorate the auditorium for the Style Show; red punch, in keeping with the Valentine theme, and cookies will be served. All junior high and interme-, diate Girl Scouts arc invited to! attend. There will be no admis sion charge. 1 Mrs. R. L. Follett, advisor to the Junior High-Intermediate Planning Board, is assisting the girls in arranging this show, I which they themselves are man aging. Mrs. S. A. Gcllert will nar-1 rate for the display, giving pert- inent hints on good grooming and teen-age personal care along with her narration. Through this unique and ftill scale survey the program com mittee hopes to learn degree of utilization in activity areas so that a wider range of interests for each troop can be worked out. Another phase of this same study is discovering ways in which leader tr.-.ining can be improved, so that the troop leaders may be aided in their work. A comprehensive program sur vey of the activities of Girl Scout troops in this Council is going into high gear this week under the leadership of Mrs. Dodge, program committee chairman. Between now and Feb. IS, 53 troops in Lane County will be visited and their doings analyzed in an effort to determine "just what kind of Girl Scouting we are actually doing in this Coun cil." A compilation committee will take the visitors' reports and sum marize their findings n a report to the annual meeting late in March. At the onset of the campaign sea son "visitors" will also attend day camp, troop camp and established -amp at Cleawox and examine them in the same critical way. Eucjene Women Volunteer Service Eugene women again are giv ing their time and effort to the March of Dimes by staffing the "Dimes" booth in the First Na tional Bank. Mrs. Miller Returns Mrs. Olive Miller has returned to Eugene from Chicago, where she was called by the death of a daughter, Mrs. F. A. Carlson, who had visited here.
