Moran, high official of the National Assn. of Credit Men, Tuesday night told local whole salers that 7 out of 10 sick busi nesses could be saved with proper I handling by creditors. Speaking at a dinner meeting in the Eugene Hotel before some 70 members of the Cascade Assn. of Credit Men, Inc., a recently or ganized group of wholesalers in the community, Moran said creditors often were better off if they could stabilize a sick business rather than force bankruptcy. "Records from our national as sociation show we can iron out most problems causing financial weakness in a business and, thus, realize a dividend distribution that would not be otherwise pos sible." Moran said the National Assn, of Credit Men was composed of 130 local associations located in all major markets of the United States. The organization, he said, provided many benefits to credit men. "The national association con ducts a fraud prevention program, brings pressure for new finance laws, Issues monthly publications, conducts forums, and provides specialized service for all local members." Moran said one of the most important objectives of the na tional group was to develop co operation among credit men In fighting corrupt business prac tices. The association's fraud department, Moran explained, has secured numerous convic tions in recent years. Moran said fraud department records revealed that 50 per cent of the nation's crooked business failures occurred in New York, 40 per cent took place in the cities of Cleveland, Philadelphia and Chicago, and the remaining 10 per cent was spread throughout the rest of the country. ' Moran was quick to point out, however, that the bulk of the "hot" merchandise from eastern business failures found its way to the Northwest. "Approximately 75 per cent of distressed mer chandise from the east is dumped in Oregon, Washington, or Mon tana." GENERAL INSURANCE 0MP M'KINLEY -ASENgY 67 East Broadway, Eugene llMcBnley.B. Andrew J. Luckett, 33, 100 Mill St., was in Jail Wednesday pend ing the posting of $200 bail on charges of failure to stop at the scene of an accident. , Weather ed, Moran explained, the crooks would have unloaded it on the market at least 10 per cent below wholesale prices. This would have demoralized distributors in the Dallas-Waco area, he added. Moran told local wholesalers that their recent application to join the national association was "virtually assured." The na tionally-known authority in credit and financial circles high-lighted his one-hour speech with colored slides illustrating the numerous activities carried out by the na tional credit group.
