Sept. 20 W Richard "Pancho" Gonzales turned professional Tuesday, giv ing up the amateur tennis cham pionship of the United States for a career that will net him at least $60,000 the first year. The 21-year-old Mexican American star flew in from Los Angeles and signed a one-year contract to meet Jack Kramer in a series of 90 to 100 matches cov ering all of the country's major cities. "I'm turning pro for one rea son," said the former ball boy who learned his tennis on the ! public courts of Los Angeles. "It's the same reason anybody would tum pro for the money." .
