But about all he got to say was that he knew ail the defendants and that he once studied law un der Federal Judge Harold R. Me dina, who is presiding at the trial. The government objected to virtually everything else the Negro baritone was asked, and Medina upheld the objectinos. A climax came when Defense Counsel George W. Crockett Jr. also a Negro, inquired of Robe son. "I think you shared a platform once with President Roosevelt." Objection, said U. S. Attorney John F. X. McGohey. Sustained, said Medina. The judge added that Crockett seemed to be trying to establish facts even though the questions were being ruled out. Whether Robeson did or didn't share a platform with the late President, Medina said, has noth ing to do with the case. An informed church source estimated that the latest wave of arrests brought the number of Catholic priests under arrest to more than 200. However, the Czech press has recently carried an increasing number of threats against priests who carry out "anti-state' orders issued from the Vatican or the church heir archy. The report, given to corre spondents here and enumerating at least 30 arrests, was termed oniy a partial list. It said more arrests were expected as the low- state-church fight neared a show' down stage. in one case the entire per sonnel of a monastery was re ported seized.
