At the afternoon program, the group sang "Jolly Boy, Jolly Girls", accompanied by Mrs. Ev erett Wearin. Short reminisc ences were given by John Holmes, Sam Goddard and W. B. Scott. Appropriate prizes were provided by the committee and presented to ten of the visitors for various accomplishments. A committee to select the place and time for next year's picnic is headed by Mrs. John ion, assisted by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Willian, Mrs. Vern Cald well and Cecil Chase. By CORA E. WEARIN DEERHORN The fourth an nual reunion of the McKenzie Union High School District No. 5 last Sunday proved to be an enjoyable occasion for sixty eight guests registered at the Walterville Hall. The picnic was sponsored by former students and teachers of the now-discontinued secondary school. Families of all members of the group and their friends were invited, so many former acquaintances were able to renew friendships. Special honor was paid to three 'couples who had celebrat ed their fiftieth wedding anni versaries and were parents who helped establish the school when rural high schools were a rarity. Mr. and Mrs. Samuel J. Goddard of CreswelU who now have twenty-one grandchildren; Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Scott and Mr. and Mrs. Milan J. Wearin, who soon will celebrate their fifty eighth anniversary, all received gifts. Special guests were Mr. and Mrs. John Holmes of Eugene, Mrs. Clare Willian, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Page, all of whom have taken an active part in the affairs of the school. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Willian of Eugene were special guest. Mrs. Willian was the only early-day instrue tor who was present this year. Lee Fountain, a graduate of 1918, who has been master of ceremonies each year since the reunions began, again kept things moving. Officers for next year are Mrs. Everett Wearin, president; Mrs. Earl Johnson, Vaughn, vice pres ident and chairman of the pub licity committee, and Mrs. Lane, secretary, re-elected. Mrs. Nathan Chaffee of Eu gene, program chairman for the day, arranged a debate on the topic: "Resolved: That Young People of Today Have a Better Time Than the Older Genera tion." John R. (Jack) Thienes of Eugene and B1U Robinson of Portland argued for the affirm ative, while Robert Willian and Mrs. Earl Johnson presented the negative. Mrs. Everett Wearin summarized the rebuttal. The judges, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Wear in, Ronald Chase and Mrs. Wil liam James, declared the deci sion a draw. Additional guests include!)
