The dinner committee is un der the direction of Mrs. G. A. (jilmore, and her assistants are Mrs. F. L. Jost, Mrs. L. W. Ruth, Mrs. K. E. Rutlodge, Mrs. S. 1. Woodson, and Mrs. C. 0. Hosmer. WESTWAY CLUB ' . MEETS FOR CARDS An afternoon of cards was enjoyed by members of West way Club following the one o'clock luncheon served by Mrs. M. G. Dunn, Thursday. Card honors went to Mrs. Harry Wheeler and Mrs. Celia Baker. Guests of the group were Mrs. Harold Dunn and Mrs. M. Blackmore. Mrs. Fred Gibons was an nounced as hostess for the August 1 meeting. It will be at one-thirty o'clock, rather than the usual time of one. It will be at the home of Mrs. W. N. Maguire, 592 Seventh Avenue West, and assisting the hostess will be Mrs. Corbett Skelly, Mrs. Clara Snodgrass, and Mrs. Lawrence Harrington. Bridge and pinochle will be played in the afternoon. Committee chairmen for the July 18 picnic will discuss plans for the affair which is to be at the Benton-Lane Park. DEGREE OF HONOR busi ness meeting will be at eight o'clock Tuesday evening in Knights of Pythias Hall. Redoes 'Tis the season for rhubarb and here is a mighty good dessert. Cook the rhubarb in the liquid from canned peaches (saves sugar and gives flavor). Serve as sauce for dessert, or over pound cake. Gabriel Heatter joIm From News Desk 1 No. Vz can peach halves Mi cup sugar Dash salt Vi teaspoon cinnamon, (or nut- neg) Cut rhubarb into 1 inch pieces. Drain syrup from peaches into a sauce pan. Add rhubarb, sugar and seasonings Simer gently un til rhubarb is tender. Chill and serve over peach halves. Six to eight servings. With Cake Slice: Place a slice of cake such as pound, sponge, chif fon, or left-over cake, in each serving dish. Put a peach half on each about a third cup rhubarb sauce. Top with whipped crea. Shortcake: Use peaches and rhubarb with rich biscuits for an intriguing shortcake. Serve with it light cream or milk. JUNE PEAS IN CASSEJIOLF 1 tablespoon salt 2 quarts boiling water 4 ounces spaghetti 2 cups cooked peas IV4 cups condensed mushroom soup (1 10-ounce can) Vz cup milk teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 4 - trips crisp bacon Add 1 tablespoon salt to actively boiling water. Gradually add spaghetti and cook until tender (about 12 minutes). Drain and rinse. Combine spaghetti, peas, mushroom soup, milk, salt and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well. Put into greased life-quart casserole. Cover. Bake in moder ate oven (over 350 deg. F.) about 45 minutes. Garnish with crisp bacon. The Robin fell down a chimney apparently making his first at tempt at flight. He was rescued from the ashes barely alive, given nourishment through a medicine dropper and promptly named San ta because of his chimney descent. After recovering his hcilth, Santa was offered his freedom. But he had become so attached to his new home that he refused to fly away. TWO-FOOT RATTIiEJR KILLED A two-foot timber rattlesnake which he found in his woodshed was killed June 18 by Jesse Blocher, Rt. 2, Springfield. The snake was discovered just inside the door by Tommy Blocher. When killed it was found to have eight rattles and a button. Mrs. Ward McDowell, wife of a University of Iowa student, lost a purse in Minneapolis three years ago. The purse contained $50.08, keys (to a jewelry store), pictures of her baby and letters. She advertised for it in a Min neapolis paper. This week, Mrs. McDowell said, she received the purse in the mall from an unidentified sendeir.
