Mrs. Fitzhugh, who lives In a garage apartment rjenina ner mother-in-law's home, said the slaying occurred about 12:30 a. ra. Her husband had gone to work at the Tennessee Coal, Iron and Rail road Co., an hour and one-half earlier. The couple s other child, a three months old daughter, was asleep in the mother's bed at the time. Calls Hospital She told officers that about 1 m. she picked up the child's lifeless body and carried it to her mother-in-law, Mrs. Bertha A. FiUhugh. From there she called the hospital. A few minutes later hospital attaches said she called again and told them the boy was dead and asked them to call police. Mrs. Fitzhugh told solicitor Perry that her husband had bor rowed $50 each from three loan companies and that one threaten ed only Monday to sua or garni shee her husband's wages. Solicitor Perry said he asked her what they did with the orig inal $1S0 Joan. "We wasted it and got In debt all over again," she answered. She said her husband earned $1.46 cents an hour. P. Ewalt, extension dairyman at Oregon State College, noted that the dairy population throughout Oregon has decreased, while dis cussion disclosed that the cow I population of Lane County alone probably has decreased 1000 dur ing the past 18 months.
