This was the opinion of City Fire Marshal Lester Barker and Health Officer Dr. A. Triolo Sat urday, after they had inspected the site for the Baptist. The State Public Welfare Com mission deferred approval of the orphanage plan during its regular meeting in Portland Friday, but promised a special meeting as soon as possible to give the plan further consideration. Said Dr. Triolo: "We found the place in pretty good condition from the sanitation standpoint and the way it Is maintained." Barker, who looked for flaws that would be hazardous if children occupied the building, said he found "noth ing too bad" at the present time. Baker also said that wood heat ing stoves in the women's annex which he said are suitable for use by adults, would have to be re placed if youngsters lived In the building. Better "The maintenance and house keeping at the county poor farm are good," he said, adding that "It Is better, in some Instances, than In Eugene homes occupied by eld erly persons." 'As bachelor quarters go," said Dr. Triolo, "we thought it was awfully good. The poor farm isn't a "Grand Hotel," but it is well kept, clean, and the bathroom fa cilities are adequate." "Of course," he said, "the fel lows have to make their own beds, and there Is some variance in their bed-making techniques." Dr. Triolo said the standard for bathroom facilities is one stool for each ten persons. There are eight toilets for the SO old people at the poor farm, he stated, plus one for the cook and a separate unit in the women's annex. The health officer concurred with the fire marshal on the re. moval of the present heating system If the Baptists convert the building to an orphanage. Hp also recommended a two-compartment sink for more efficient sterilization of dishes; a system of ventilation other than Individual windows; md additional refrigeration In the kitchen. Entries Sought For Dog Show Dog show entry blanks went out this weekend to every owner of a pure-bred dog known to the Eugene Kennel Club's committee, according to Marjorie Bond, chair man and secretary. She asked that anyone who does not receive a blank by Dec. 26 call her, phone 2420-J, or get one at her home, 1034 Fourth Ave. W. Entries must be returned post marked not later than Jan. S. The short time interval is due to de layed approval from American Kennel Club headquarters for the show date. This year for the first time, Eu gene will have an official AKC show, with points counting toward ! championships. Helen Rosemouht, ' of San Francisco, has been retain ed as judge for most of the classes. Her son-in-law, Lud Burkett of San Francisco, will Judge hounds. Both are prominent California dog fanciers. Dr. Ray Smith of Portland, a specialist in hunting dogs, will judge the sporting group. Ivan Clark of Portland will judge children's show classes. Carl Karns, Eugene, will judge cocker spaniels. The children's classes. In which dogs of any breed may be used, are to demonstrate the children's skill in handling show animals in the judging ring. All-new benching will be used, and men of the Kennel Club are rolling up their sleeves to do the work. Donations of labor, lumber, or money will be appreciated.
