Sept. 17, 1947 VA Dental Clinic Prepares To Give Free Exams, X-Rays Veterans with service-connect ed tooth troubles may now receive free examinations and X-ray at the new Veterans Administration dental clinic at Room 325, Hamp ton Building, Sixth and Willam ette and will soon be able to ob tain actual treatment there, the local VA office said Wednesday. A dentist, dental assistant and stenographer are on hand in the four-room suite of offices, and are prepared to make the examina tions that will be prepared with service dental records. A new dentist is expected to join the clinic soon, and after that veterans may have actual dental rwork done at the VA clinic if they choose. Europe Reports Polio Outbreak LONDON VP) An outbreak of infantile paralysis (poliomyelitis) of record proportions in some lo calities was indicated in European statistics on hand here Wednesday. Britain, Germany, Austria, Bel gium and Sweden seemed' hardest hit. France, Italy, Czechoslovakia, The Netherlands and Denmark also reported cases of the disease. The British outbreak was the most widespread since record keeping began in 1912. Cases this year totaled 4856 up to Sept. 6. compared with an average of 600 cases annually for the last 25 years. London had had 613 cases and 32 deaths by that date. In the peak week, ended Sept. 6, all Brit ain reported 662 new cases. Berlin had 850 ill of poliomyel itis in that city's worst recorded upsurge. Hamburg had reported 160 cases and 19 deaths. Flowers cut late in the afternoon in Haiti and other southern fields are flown 1,500 miles to northern cities for early morning delivery, reports Railway Express, assuring fresh orchids, gardenias, sweet peas and baby's breath. Local Men fo Attend Power Policy Meet An analysis of present federal fiscal policies as they affect Co lumbia River power development and the overall effects of those policies will be the main topics of discussion in Portland Thursday and Friday when the Bonneville Regional Advisory Council holds its regular meeting. Mayor Earl McNutt, a member of the council, will attend the ses sions, at which discussion also is scheduled on the redefinition of power shortages in the light of recent findings by the power pool. Invitations to attend the meet ing have been extended to Clar ence Belknap, head of the Oregon State Cooperative Assn.; Frank Savae, manager of Blachly-Lane Co-op; Virgil Parker, president of Blachly-Lane Co-op; John Smith, manager of the Lane County Co op; and Ray Boals, head of the Eugene water board. William E. Trommershausen, manager of the BPA district office in Eugene, was ln Portland Wed nesday attending a meeting of dis trict managers.
