Eugenean Held After Assaults Lawrence Thomas, 24-year-old Eugene man, was being held in county jail Friday pending dis position of assault and battery charges after he allegedly dis turbed three women near the downtown district Wednesday night. City police said Thomas, whose address was given as the Bangs Hotel, was arrested at Eighth and Olive Sts. at 11 p.m. Wednesday, following reports that three wo men had been disturbed during the period from 8:45 to 10 p.m. Wednesday. . The first disturbance, according to city police, occurred In front of the City Barber. Shop at Park and Oak Sts. at about 8:45 p.m. The second case reportedly oc curred when a woman attempted to enter her car In the parking lot across from the Greyhound Depot at 9:05 p.m. The third case was reported to police' at 10 p.m. after a woman was stopped in front of a resi dence at 236 Ninth Ave. W. In each case, police said, their screams frightened the assailant away. The assailant, police laid, grabbed the third victim's purse containing $20 and papers before fleeing. The purse was recov ered Thursday by children living on Ninth Ave. W., but city detec tives said the money and papers had not been recovered. Cyrus Charles Premo Cyrus Charles Premo, 84, died March 17 at Dallas, Ore. He was born Aug. 13, 1862, in New York, ano is survived by a nephew and niece, Harry Castle and Mrs. Fred Frost, both of Cottage Grove. He lived in Oregon 25 years.
