Farmers Union Ends Conclave ALBANY 4 The Oregon Farmers Union elected officers and passed 30 resolutions Thursday night at the close of its annual convention. The organization endorsed Columbia Valley authority, then expressed opposition to the follow ing legislative proposals: The State Highway Depart ment's "throughway" bill; the business tax: the sales tax: county planning and zoning; a bill to in crease state and county officials' salaries without popular vote. All "anti-labor" legislation also was opposed. The group urged that the "most- favored nation" clause be elimi nated from international treaties, and asked that restriction be placed on agricultural imports, Also proposed were a general building and improvement pro gram for state institutions; a 25 per cent cut in sugar quotas for beverage manufacturers and a cor. responding increase for house. holders; repeal of the rural school district law, and an amendment making the office of public util ities commissioner non-partisan. The United Nations announced the council would meet Monday to continue debate on the British charges against Albania. Tne announcement came as Great Britain made it clear she would oppose a Columbian pro' posal to refer to the International Court of Justice her complaint that Albania is responsible for the deaths of 44 seamen in two royal navy destroyers blasted by mines in Corfu Channel last Oct. 22, British delegate Sir Alexander Cadogan remarked tartly that the International Court of Justice is not a police court." Courts Martial Revamping Favored States Ponder Bonus Plans By UNITED PRESS State lawmakers have proposed the payment of veterans' bonuses totalling several hundred million dollars, a survey showed Friday. In some states, however, passage of the bonus laws may be deferred, and in still others the methods of financing the. bonus must be ap proved by the voters. In general, the bonus proposals would provide for payment of specific sums to veterans on the basis of the time they spent in service, with larger payments for time spent overseas. Bonus bills have been submitted in the state legislatures of Michi gan, Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, Colorado, Iowa, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, In diana and Connecticut. Marshall Friday rounds out his first month as secretary of state with his top aides convinced, along with Senator Vandenberg (R-Mich), that he already is "ob viously on top ot his job." She was bom Oct 8, 1888 at St. Louis, Mo., and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was also a member ot the auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Catholic Altar Society. , Surviving are a daughter, Mary Jane Nugent; three sons, James P., Kenneth F., and Thomas J., all of Eugene: her mother, Mrs. Kate Jordan, and five sisters and a brother, all oi Portland. Chairman Elston (R-Ohio) of the armed services legal subcom mittee said the changes appear to embody most recommendations of a sharply critical report by the House Military group which in vestigated the court martial sys tem last year.
