Bubar of Roseburg visited here last week end with their two daughters, Mrs. D. R. MacKillop and Mrs. Larry Watson, and their families. They were accompanied by Mrs. Fred A. Knight, also of Roseburg, who visited at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. B. Houscr, and family. Fred Huber of the Internal rev enue office will hold two meet ings at the Eugene vocational school in order to explain both tax forms and to assist taxpayers in filling out the blanks. The first meeting will be Thursday evening at 7:30 and the second meeting will be Friday evening at the same hour. Different groups will meet each evening. E. A. Danielson, county 4-H club leader, and Mrs. Ruth Lam bert of Bethel, vice-president of the Lane County Club Leaders association, went to Cottage Grove Tuesday to meet with Mrs. Jeanne Morton, president of the associa tion, to revise the 1945 program of work of the organization. Jerry Cronin was sentenced by Judge G. F. Skipworth in circuit court Wednesday to serve five months in the county jail on a charge of entering a motor ve hicle with Intent to steal. He had waived grand Jury action and pleaded guilty. Benton Charles Bryant, 21, was arrested in Eugene Tuesday eve ning on a warrant issued in Gila county, Arizona, charging him with robbery. He is being held in the county jail. The arrest was 1! made by Al Dletz, depurr sheriff. ' Charles Irvin Haas, 25, was ar. rested at Cottage Grove Tuesday; : on a charge of violating the se- I lective service act. Cars driven by Julia Koratad, Crest drive, route 3; and Clayton O. Eaton, 732 18th Avenue east, were damaged slightly when they collided at 12th and Oak Tuesday afternoon. Henry Peck, business agent for Plywood and Veneer Workers local 9-244, IWA, CIO, has re turned from a meeting of the in ternational negotiating committee of the CIO in Portland. Operators will be asked to meet with the un ion in Portland March 5 to discuss current wage issues, Peck said. The art study group of the AAUW will hold its meeting Thursday at 3:30 p. m. at the Or iental art musemum. Mrs. G. S. Beardsley will complete her dis cussion of oriental ceramics. A cream-colored panel delivery truck was stolen from a parking place at Eighth Avenue and Charnelton sometime between 7:30 and 10:30 Tuesday morning, according to a report made to city police. The truck is the property of Edwin O. Harris, 465 11th Avenue west, and has U. S. Mall stenciled on the side. There was no mail in the vehicle at the time It was stolen, Postmaster F. L. Armitage said. Townsend Club No. 1 will hold its regular oldtime dance Wednes day from 9 to 12 p.m. at Silver Spray hall, 24 Seventh avenue west. The public is welcome to attend. Dr. Carl F. Henry, professor at Northwestern Baptist Theological seminary, Chicago, will be the speaker at the midweek service Thursday at 7:30 p.m., at First Baptist church. Obisldians are planning a trip into the Coburg hills, to Old Baldy, Sunday afternoon, and will leave the comer of Eleventh and Willamette at 1:30 p.m. Miss Bertha Deckmann will be leader for the trip, which will include drive of 12 miles, and a hike of from five to six miles. Those planning to make the trip are to sign up at Hendershott s by Sat urday, for transportation. Porritt is chairman. River Road P-TA will sponsor a carnival at the River Road school Friday, Feb. 23, at 8 p.m., to raise funds for various school projects. Participating from the univer sity will be Dr. Victor P. Morris, dean of tlje business administra tion school; Dr. Wesley C. Bal laine, associate professor; O. K. Burrell, professor; and Dr. N. H. Cornish, professor. Opening with a luncheon meet ing, Dr. Morris will speak to the clinic on "The Economic Futuro of Oregon." At a 2 p. m. meet ing Burrell will address the groi'-p on "Postwar Federal Taxes." At a 3:15 session Dr. Cornish will lead a discussion on "Problems Facing the Small Business." An evening business conference will head Dr. Ballaine on "Problems of Postwar Economic Readjust ment." Following each talk an open discussion will be held.
