Those present were: Juanita Roland, Ruth Jon sen, Bertie Tweedt, Madeline Clay, George Lynch, Cedric Brock, Donald Darling, Lester Griswa'.d Volunteer Fire Group Holds Annual Meeting CRESWELL. At th. annual meeting of the Creswell volunteer fire department Tuesday evening, the following officers were elected for the new year: president, Car lisle Scarbrough, re-elected; vice president, F. A. Everson; secretary-treasurer, J. O. Mortensen; chief, C. C. Hollemon, re-elected; assistant, V. W. Johnston, re elected. Twenty-four calls were reported made during the year and donations toward the upkeep of equipment were made by several who had been served by members of the company. Following the meeting a duck dinner with all the trimmings was served by Mrs. Guy Calhoun in appreciation for services rendered at a fire at her place several miles west of town. The dinner was served at the E. O. Smith home and Mrs. Calhoun was assisted by Mrs. Smith and Mrs. W. L. Scott. Sixteen members were present, this being the total number in the department since so many have been called in to service. The attendance for the whole year at meetings averaged twelve. Parent Meeting The regular meeting of the Par ents club of the high school will be held Thursday, Jan. 18 at the school building beginning at 1 p. m. Members will visit the var ious classes and" will be served by members of the Home Economics class. Arthur Harmon1 of Grants Pass recently visited at the home of his niece, Mrs. C. L. Ellis, and family. Erdine Jones, Nadine Jones and Nelda Syphers attended a special meeting of Stewart's junior rop ing and riding school at Spring field Mondav evening. Several leaders were chosen f the meet ing. Staff Sergeant David Casper is home on leave from Farragut, Idaho, to care for his mother who is ill and who recently suffered a fall. Mass Saturday OAKRIDGE A reaulem mass for Stephen Palanuk, son of Alex Palanuk of Oakrldge, will be held Saturday at 10 a. m. at St. Michael's Catholic church. Oak ridge. Corporal Palanuk, 26, was killed in action Nov. 30 on Leyte, P. I. The funeral mass will be said by Father Louis Sohler of Cottage Grove. Music will be furnished by St. Mary's high school choir of Eugene. Corporal Palanuk was born at Gorham, N. The purpose of the W.C.T.U. was read. A sum of $41.00 was turned over tn the treasurer at this meeting, part of which had been taken in a col lection at the union service. The date of the meeting has been changed from the first Friday of the month to the second Friday of the month. The new officers took over their dutier at this meeting. Refreshments were served. Harold Darling has left for Portland after spending the holi days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Darling. in 1937, settling at Oakridge. He entered the service tn May, 1942 and had been overseas since Feb ruary, 1943. Three brothers and a sister also are in service: PFC Emil Palanuk, a prisoner in the Philippines; Cpl. John Palanuk, now in France, and Walter palanuk, on Saipan; PFC Nellie Palanuk, in the marine corps. In addition to these four, four other brothers and a sister survive besides his father. They are George Palanuk of Roseburg, Paul, Adam and Joe Palanuk and Mrs. George Po korny, all of Oakrldge. Auxiliary Meeta The Ladies auxiliary met list week at the city hall. The meet ing was called to order by the new president, Mrs. Ada George. Mrs. J. C. Clay was appointed for the publicity committee. Mrs. M. Jensen has been appointed to have charge of the Hed Cross work. Mrs. Rilla Owen has been appointed to visit the sick. New Girl Scout committees have been appointed. Anton Ceroid took over as driver of the Sunny Brook dairy milk truck, Monro rout, whtn Freddy Peters, former driver, left to Join the armed forces. Anton will keep th Job until his father returns home here. Mr. Ceroid Is in San Diego at this time for his health. Mrs. George Horning has re turned to Portland to resume her work. She Is an employe of th Federal Reserve bank there. Mrs. Horning is the former Miss Eleanor Bailey of this commun ity. Her husband, In training with the navy, has returned to school at Newport R. L i.
