BREAKFAST IIEJLD Approximately a hundred were present at the annual breakfast of the Women's Missionary so ciety of the First Christian church, held during the week. Mr. and Mrs. E. It. Moon, re turned missionaries to Jamaica, were the speakers. Other mis sionaries living in Eugene were special guests, Including Miss Hattie Mitchell from Mondombe, Africa, and Miss Goldie Wells, from the Congo, both Christian church njlsslonarles; Miss Mar garet Cuddeback, Baptist mis sionary to Japan. Mrs. G. H. McCoy presided, Mrs. S. E. Stevens led devotions, and Mrs. Maud Skaggs Wdodyard sang, with accompaniment by Mrs. C. H. Dickson. Mrs. Mary McFarland was presented a spe cial award for having read forty missionary books and nine hun dred fifty Bible chapters, dur ing the year. Dorcas society of the Seventh day Adventist church will meet Wednesday at the Dorcas rooms In the church, for sewing, for ten o'clock in the morning until four o'clock In the afternoon. Women's Council of First Christian church will hold an all-day sewing session at the church, In the white room, with potluck luncheon at noon, United Lutheran Missionary society will meet at the home of Mrs. H. M. Davenport, Tuesday evening at six o'clock, with mem ber, and friends and their fam ilies attending, for a potluck tinner. East Eugene union of the Wo men'. Christian Temperance union will hold a public session Wednesday afternoon at two thirty o'clock, at Palrmount Presbyterian church, when Miss Margaret Cuddeback, returned missionary to Japan, will be the speaker. Special music will be furnished by Mrs. 3. E. Rich mond, Mr.. H. R. Burch and Mrs. Floyd Travis, and other Items are planned on the program. Royal Neighbor, will meet Thursday at eight o'clock, at the Knights of Pythias hall, for busi ness, and refreshments will be served after the meeting. The committee Is comprised of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Barker, with Mrs. Barker as chairman: Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Arey, Mrs. Olga Jones, Mrs. Henry Tuynman and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Blanton. The annual picnic of the Al bany, Oakville and Shedd United Presbyterian missionary societies will be held at Oakville this year during August. Bean picking started this past week at the Hawkins patch north east of Shedd. Several local peo ple are working there. L. N. , Starnes took a load of lambs to market last week. Pas tures early in the summer were better than they were last year but are now showing the effects of dry weather. Gardens in this vicinity, excepting those which have been watered, are seriously damaged by lack of rainfall. Mi s. Grace Harrison of Newport Is visiting relatives in the Ash Swale neighborhood. The Shedd school will open on Sept. 18. Lee Elliott has his new barn nearly completed. Cpl. Ronald H. Morgason of the army air force and Mrs. Morgason spent two weeks visiting their parents.
