(Wednesday in Episcopal Chapel PHIPPS-NEAL WEDDING SATURDAY A popular campus couple, Miss Shirley Neal and Preston L. Phipps, were married. Saturday afternoon, four-thirty o'clock, at a ceremony held in the chapel of St. Mary's Episcopal church. Rev. E. S. Bartlam, rector officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl B. Neal of Olympia, Wash., Mr. Phipps the son of Judge and Mrs. F. L. Phipps of The Dalles. The bride is a junior on the campus and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Mr. Phipps, who is with the senior ROTO group on the campus, is affiliated with Phi Delta Theta fraternity, i Miss Susan Grout of Portland was maid of honor for her cou sin. Bridesmaids were Miss Aly sone Hales, Mrs. Don Johnson, and Miss Beverly Jacob. Laur ence Phipps was best man for his brother, and James Thayer, James Dennison, and Glen Porter were the ushers. The. bride wore a turquoise blue silk dress with a small hat of the turquoise veiling and flowers, and she carried a white Bible on which were arranged white orchids. Miss Grout wore navy blue. Miss Hales was dress ed in light blue, Mrs. Johnson in light green, and Miss Jacob in pink, all attendants carrying nosegays of flowers. Following the service at the church, a reception was held at the Kappa Kappa Gamma sor ority house. Mrs. A. R. Grout of Portland, aunt of the bride, Mrs. Nelson F. Macduff, and Mrs. Ed ward F. Mr. and Mrs. Roy R. Hughes of Eugene are announcing the betrothal of their daughter, Miss Hope Merilyn Hughes, to Lt (jg) E. Charles Pressman, naval . air corps, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Pressman of Glendive, Montana. Today, at the Residence club in San Francisco, Miss Hughes, together with Misses June Tay lor, Mary Elizabeth Earl, and Eugenia Robertson, all formerly of Eugene, will entertain with a Valentine party to announce tht news to a group of former Uni . versify of Oregon friends now in that city. She is with the air trans port command in San Francisco. Lieutenant Pressman attended University of Montana, where he was pledged to Sigma Nu fra ternity, and the University of Oregon before going to the naval air corps. He was commissioned at Jacksonville, Florida, Nov. 1, 1942, and is now on duty with the Atlantic fleet. The bride-elect passed a large box of candy at her sorority house to announce the news, Miss June Marie Wilson sang. No date is set for the wedding. The bride-elect is a student at the University of Oregon and a member of Alpha Omicron Pi on the campus. Mr. Barker-formerly attended the university and Is affiliated with Phi Kappa Psl fraternity. He enlisted in the navy in March, 1942, and was commissioned as an ensign.
