WEDDING SATURDAY
A popular campus couple, Miss
Shirley Neal and Preston L.
Phipps, were married. Saturday
afternoon, four-thirty o'clock, at
a ceremony held in the chapel of
St. Mary's Episcopal church. Rev.
E. S. Bartlam, rector officiating.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Carl B. Neal of
Olympia, Wash., Mr. Phipps the
son of Judge and Mrs. F. L.
Phipps of The Dalles. The bride
is a junior on the campus and a
member of Kappa Kappa Gamma
sorority. Mr. Phipps, who is
with the senior ROTO group on
the campus, is affiliated with
Phi Delta Theta fraternity,
i Miss Susan Grout of Portland
was maid of honor for her cou
sin. Bridesmaids were Miss Aly
sone Hales, Mrs. Don Johnson,
and Miss Beverly Jacob. Laur
ence Phipps was best man for
his brother, and James Thayer,
James Dennison, and Glen Porter
were the ushers.
The. bride wore a turquoise
blue silk dress with a small hat
of the turquoise veiling and
flowers, and she carried a white
Bible on which were arranged
white orchids. Miss Grout wore
navy blue. Miss Hales was dress
ed in light blue, Mrs. Johnson in
light green, and Miss Jacob in
pink, all attendants carrying
nosegays of flowers.
Following the service at the
church, a reception was held at
the Kappa Kappa Gamma sor
ority house. Mrs. A. R. Grout of
Portland, aunt of the bride, Mrs.
Nelson F. Macduff, and Mrs. Ed
ward F. Bailey poured. Assist
ing in serving. were members of
the sorority.

1942, and is now on duty with
the Atlantic fleet.
