William Jensen heada the Odd Fellows committee for the evening and is assisted by Anton Rasmussen, Harold Kennedy, J. C. Larsen, and H. C. Christofferson. A regular meeting of the Luther League was held last week. Plans were discussed for the young peoples' Christmas tree program to be held Monday, Dec. 27 in the Danish hall at 8:00, Scout Troop A Boy- Scout troop committee meeting was held Friday evening at the home of Lee Murphy, chair man. Other committeemen are Ernest Kennedy, finance; Howard Ashby, secretary; Haven Potterf, scout relations and Eyner Hentze, transportation and camping. The entire committee will aot as the board of review. The committee voted to purchase a set of scout mQctAra VinnHhnnk and a new scoutmaster's uniform from the troop fund. The troop was rereg istered and plans were discussed lei. a nnnpp ,lrlv to be held on Jan. 15. The next meeting of the committee will ne neia Jan. ana on the first Monday of every month thereafter. Cabs Organize The Cub Scout troop of Junc tion City has been re-organized under the leadership of Rev. Carl Mason. Twenty cubs were register ed Thursday of last week. The Cubs are sponsored by the Ameri can Legion. Cub committeemen are D. D. Horton, William Hansen, and Harold Kennedy. M-Sgt. V. Nelson and Mrs. Nel son have arrived from Fort Colum bia, Wash., to spend the holidays with Sgt. Nelson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Nelson, other relatives and friends. Sgt. Rebekah lodge No. 42 meeting in the I.O.O.F. hall at 7:00 Satur day. Grange No. 744 Christmas party In the grange hall at 7:00. From Shedd SHEDD Staff Sergeant Bob White and Lonnie C. Parkeson and families are making their homes in cabins at the Shedd auto camp now under the management of M. J. Fox. The men are stationed at Camp Adair. Mr. Fox expects to open his garage for business early in January. A basketball game played here recently between the Shedd and Tangent grade teams resulted In victory for the visitors, 21 to 15. Four members of the Shedd Girl Scout troop enjoyed a skating party recently at the Albany rink. The leader of the troop, Mrs. Doris Latimer, accompanied them. An airplane school which was held In the school house has com pleted Its course of nine lessons. It was attended by captains of the observation post and those under them. Thirty different planes were studied. Mrs. Bell of Eugene was instructor. Kenneth Smith and Miss Vlda Klfer who is teaching the first and second grades of the Shedd school were mnrrled recently. Arthur Ruckert who is in the army recently made a visit at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Ruckert. Parents Club Sets Meeting Thursday CRESWELL The regular meeting or the Parent club will be held Thursday afternoon of this week instead of on Friday as the school closes that day for the holiday. The teacher will be in charge of the program and the home economics class will serve the refreshment. Mrs. J. P. Kuni and Mrs. G. N. McDonah entertained the Royal Neighbors club of Eugene at a luncheon, Friday, followed by a Christmas party and an exchange of gifts. "Secret sis ter" gifts were also presented. Carols were sung around a light ed tree. Twenty guests were present Mr. and Mrs. F. Powell have received word that their son, Flness, has completed hi boot training and has been transferred to a basic training school at De troit, Mich., where he will at tend a school preparing him as a machinist mate. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Plank of Oakridge and baby daughter are visiting with her people Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Stott and family. Mr. Plank responds to his service call next month. The family plans to locate here. Pfc. Earl Smith arrived home Friday from camp- at Tacoma where he is a member of a medi cal detachment. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Smith. Mrs. Mabel Sly left Monday to spend the holidays with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs, Mark Hanford at Boise, Idaho. Home From Seattle i Ralph Black of the navy was home for the week-end from Seattle, Wash. ' Due to illness, the Christmas program and mothers' tea sched uled for Wednesday afternoon, by the grade school teachers has been dispensed with. - , Mrs. Ernest Syphers arrived here Friday to visit with her parents, Mr. . and Mrs. M. C. Redding, and with Seaman Syph ers' mother, Mrs. Lela Syphers. She plan to be here two weeks. , Lambing Starts Early At Shedd SHEDD Apparently lambing has started early this year. A new lamb was added to L. N. Starnes' flock of sheep last week. Pas tures are better than they were at this time last year but would be benefited by more warm rains. Ewes in most flocks are in good condition. Mrs. Allen Madsen from Port Angeles, Wash., has been visiting Miss Fay Williams. The regular meeting of the Prlscllla club was postponed until next Wednesday on account of the illness of Mrs. Bertha Elliott. The United Presbyterian Mis sionary society met on Friday aft ernoon at the home of Mrs. Emma Gregory for the annual Christmas meeting. Mrs. Herbert McDonald conducted the devotional services. Mrs. C. E. Berton read the min utes of last month's meeting and called the roll. Mrs. Willard Brown conducted the business meeting. Number were drawn and gifts bearing corresponding numbers were , distributed. A lighted Christmas tree was an attractive feature. Refreshments were served. The Potter elub met recently at the home of Mrs. Porter. A clever contest was held. Mrs. E. E. Aw brey won the prize by guessing most nearly the number of berries on bunches of holly. Refreshments were served. Deerhorn School Lists Program DEERHORN The Christmas program will be held Thursday evening at the Deerhorn echool house. The pupils of the school will present the program. Those Interested may attend the pro gram at the Walterville Presbyter ian (Anderson Memorial) church on Christmas eve. Walt Rauch Jr., teaman firsli class, USN, formerly of Deerhorn, is at home on a short furlough. Walt was badly Injured several months ago but has recovered con siderably. His sister, Goldie, also was home at the same time. She is a nurse in Portland. . NOT! NEWS NOTI The Rainbow Health club enjoyed a party at the school house recently. Following a short business meeting, the game com mittee, Rozella Roush, Ordella Harrington, and Delores Berens, led an afternoon of games. Later refreshment were served. The refreshment committee was Kleth Harper, Wanda Ware, Marie Clark and Kay Kayser. Mrs. L. R. Ad klson is club leader. Mrs. Florence Gamer has left for Colorado to spend Christmas with her husband, Private Ken neth Garner, who Is in the air forces, training at Buckley Field. . Severy acted as in stalling officer, with W. J. Mead ows acting as marshall and Mrs. Ben Shirley and Mrs. George Chapman amblem and regalia bearers. During the business meeting Mr. and Mr. Delbert Akerley. Mr. and Mrs. J. Waldo, and Miss Fay Waldo were voted into the grange and will receive the degrees in January. A gift ex change and refreshment are planned for the next meeting, which will be on December 25. CLUB ELECTS CLOVERDALE The Christmas meeting of the Ladies' club was held at the clubhouse Thursday. A no-hostess dinner was sreved at noon. Quilting for Mrs. L. J. Qulgley was done during the aft ernoon. At the.business meeting the following officers were elected for the pew year: president, Mrs. W. O. Shoop; vice-president, Mr. Olive James; secretary treasur er, Mrs. E. F. Roberts. The visitors were Mrs. Wilma Mitchell, and Mrs. Paul Bishop of Eugene, Mrs. iarne ixra and Mrs. T. H. Con boy. Christmas carols were sung and gift were exchanged. Re freshments were also served dur- m id wiuayi Missionary Group Elects Officers SANTA CLARA The Sant Clara Women's Missionary soci ety met recently in the church parlor with Mrs. W. E. Barbee in charge of the program. The topic was "Peace." Election of officers for the new year resulted as follows: Mrs. W. E. Barbee, President; Mrs. Arthur Guthrie, vice-president; Mrs. Lee Adkins, secretary and treasurer; Mrs. Cliff Abram song leader; Mrs. H. Jeppesen, assistant; Mrs. E. A. Conont, pianist; Mrs. James B. Chapman assistant. PFC. Joe Taubenkrau, home on furlough, left recently for his station in California after a visit with his parents and old friends. He also visited with evi. rrea Emerson at Camp Adair and other friends in Portland. Joe has finished his school of radio work. Staff Sgt Ed Burger of Camp Adair visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Barker in Santa Clara recently. Mrs. H. R. Emerson returned home recently from Camp Adair where she visited her son, Pvf. Fred Emerson, who underwent an operation on his eye Nov. 30. Pvt. Fred Is getting along nicely but will be operated on again this week. Noti Program Set ' Next Thursday NOTI There will be a Christ mas program at the grade school Dec. 23 at 8 p.m. Everyone is in vited. The Home Extension Unit met recently at the home of Mrs. Mae Pilon, Miss Nellie Lyle, county home demonstration agent, was speaker of the day, leading a dis cussion on "Building Morale." Roll call was answered by a Christmas poem. A planned luncheon was served at noon. Aft ernoon was taken up by singing, games and the exchange of gifts. Birthday greetings were extend ed, to members having birthdays in December. Twenty members and seven visitors were present. . Mr. and Mre. William Jay were called to Vancouver, Wash., re cently because of the death of Mrs. Jay's brother-in-law, Bob Carson. Mr. and Mrs. Carson were former residents of Noti. They were living at Oakland, Cal., at the time of Mr. Carson's acci dental death. Miss Avril Drinkwater has fin ished her training at Western Union's school in Santa Cruz, Cal., and has been placed in a Western Union office in Medford. A Christmas pro gram in charge of the lecturer, Mrs. Earl Petty will be given. "Santa Claus" will be there and each member is to bring a gift for exchange. The Home Economic club of Creswell grange will hold Its meeting Tuesday afternoon at the hall. "Pollyanna gifts" will be presented and a no-hostess lunch eon will be served. The regular meeting of Honor Rebekah lodge will be held Wed nesday evening, Dec. 22. Each member will give a number in keeping with the holiday season for the good of the order. Gift will be exchanged. Mrs. V. E. Grousbeck assisted by Mrs. E. D. Grousbeck entertained the Neighborhood club Thursday afternoon at the annual Christinas party. Carols were sung, Mrs. Frank Sly gave a reading and Mrs. E. D. Grousbeck sang a solo. Gift were exchanged. The eighty-first birthday anniversary of Mrs. Jen nings was observed. The Christmas parry of the Camas Swale club was held last week at the club house in their district. Mrs. Grant Mrs. Vern McCluskey, and Mrs. Frank Gard ner were the hostesses at the pot luck dinner at noon. Visitors were Mrs. Eunice Dugas and Mrs. Mona Hendricksen and they became members of the club. "Pollyanna names" were drawn ' for next year. Gifts were exchanged and a social afternoon was spent. Plans were made for a watch night party. Hostesses for the next meeting are Mrs. E. E. Allen, Mrs. Zelta Gool, and Mrs. Bernice Zim merman. ' - Mrs. E. H. Heaton entertained her 4-H sewing club at a Christ mas party Thursday afternoon at her home. Gifts were exchanged and treats were dispensed by the leader. Twenty-three girls were present. Mrs. C. I. Kent and Ma bel Heaton, recently of Alabama, were guests. School Programs Are Announced CROW Crow high school Is having an exchange of gifts on Dec.23. The other schools also have their tree and programs on the evening of that date. These will clean up on Dec. 24 and all will have vacation until Monday after New Year's. Henry Rieck caught a large coyote in a trap on his place the past week. The coyotes are quite numerous in that vicinity. They caught most all of Mr. Rieck's lambs and kid goats during ' the summer and fall, and have killed sheep and goats for several others. Gene Holland and John McDaniel went to see the government trap per, but he was ill and not able to trap them Just now. Sgt. Glen Harwood from Den ver, Colo., was guest of honor at a dinner Sunday at his mother's home. Several friends and rela tives attended. " At Wendling . WENDLING Mrs. Cecil Ham mond, the first grade teacher, gave a Christmas program in her room recently. The mother of the first grade pupils were invited. Vern Sansom, Keith Qulgley and George Steinberger; recitation, Larry Hobhood. Pvt. Leigh ton Jones of San Luis Obispo, Cal., has a ten-day furlough and is visiting hi par ents, Mr. and Mr. M. E. Jones. Another son, Silver Jones, has re cently enlisted in the navy and has gone to Portland. From there he will be sent to camp for basic training. Mrs. Eugene Howd has return ed from Alameda, Calif., after a three weeks' visit with her son, Clinton Howd. Central Notes CENTRAL The Willing Work ers' club of Central held it an nual Christmas party last week at the home of Mrs. Burr Fitch. A brief business session was held and it was voted to give $5 to the USO. Each member and guest re sponded to rollcall with a verse from the Bible or something per taining to Christmas. Gifts were then distributed from beneath the Christmas tree to all present after which lunch was served to 35. School closed Friday for a two weeks' vacation. The children pre sented a play "A Soldier in Beth lehem," at the Grange hall Thurs day evening and had a Christmas tree with treats for the children. The women of Cerftral will start making surgical dressings and plan on meeting each Wednesday at 1 o'clock at the Grange hall, beginning January 5.
