NEW BAPTIST MINISTER SPRINGFIELD Coming to Springfield as the new pastor of the Springfield Baptist church soon will be Rev. Leroy Crossley who was for eight years pastor of the Lebanon First Baptist church. Kev. Crossley expects to take up his work in Springfield about May 1. ACHIEVEMENT DAY FRIDAY SPRINGFIELD The Maple school 4-H clubs will hold their achievement day program Friday afternoon under the direction of Mrs. Paul Peterson, 4-H chairman. Judging of the days events will begin at 1:30 and will be followed by a short program by the club members. Club leaders for the past year have been Mrs. Peterson, Mrs. JLarel Richardson, and Mrs. Kernut Alexander. Science Conference To Be Held Here May 1 Students of science from Ore gon universities and colleges will meet at the University of Oregon May 1 for the ninth annual Ore gon Students Science Conference, Armin Gropp, Eugene, president of the conference, announced wed nesday. The conference will consist of a business meeting, a luncheon, speeches, and reading of papers on biology, chemistry, mathematics, geology, and physics by the dele gates. The university's newly ac quired science department makes possible for the conference to be held in Eugene for the first time. Betty Sampson, Eugene, is secretary ot tne conterence. Navy, Marine Reserves At UOTake Examination All University of Oregon men in the naval reserve who expect to finish their sophomore year this year, and all men in the marine reserve, were given special naval classification tests Tuesday, April 20. The test, of a general nature fcr determining in which branch oi college training each reservist will be placed, was administered by Dr. H. R. Taylor, head of the depart ment of psychology. Verlinda S. Jones Verlinda S. Jones died in Van couver, Wash., Tuesday. She was 81. Born in Clay county, Mo., she came west to Tangent, Ore., in 1892, where she lived until mov ing to Vancouver 12 years ago. Surviving her are four sons, Jess Jones of Tangent, John Jones ot Camas, Wash., William M. Jones of Eugene, and Hugh Jones of Condon, Ore.; two daughters, Mrs. S. E. Wall of Eugene and Mrs. John Long of Vancouver; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren; and one brother, Charles Dickey in Idaho. Funeral services will be held Friday from the Vancouver chapel in Vancouver, with graveside ser vices following at the Sand Ridge cemetery in Tangent.
