Catholics Announce Holy Week Events Holy Week services In St. Mary1 Catholic church will com mence Wednesday at 7:30 p. m. with Novena in honor of our Lady of Perpetual Help, a sermon by Father Clifford Carroll, S.J., Port Townsend, Wash, and benedic tion of the Blessed Sacrament. High Mass, sung by the choir of St Mary's high school, will be at 8 a.m. on Holy Thursday. Father Francis P. Leipzig will have charge of the services on Thursday at 7:30 p. m. Father Clifford Carroll will say the mass of the pre-sanctified Friday at 8 a.m. Good Friday afternoon services will consist of the Way of the Cross at 2:30 o'clock. "The Seven Last Words" will be sung Good Friday at 7:30 p.m. by the adult choir of St. Mary's parish under the direction of Dale Cooley. A sermon on "The Death of Christ" will be delivered by Father Carroll following the Seven Last Words. Good Friday evening services will be complet ed with the singing of the Tene brae by Father Francis P. Leip zig, Father Clifford Carroll, and Father Basil, O.S.B. of St. Bene dict's Abbey, Mt. Angel, Ore. Preliminary services will com merce at 6:45 a.m. on Holy Sat urday, followed by High mass atj 8 a. m. Students of St. Mary high j school will sing the Mass. I Easter masses will be at 6:30, 1 8:00, 9:30 and 10:30 a. m. Secret Of RAF 'Can-Openers' Heavy Guns LONDON, April 21. U.RThe secret of the RAF's tank busting airplanes which have earned the name "Can-openers" because of their work in North Africa, was officially revealed today. The "Can-openers" are Hurri canes designed especially for use against armored vehicles. They carry two 40 mm. guns, one in each wing. The guns are cap able of automatic single shot fire with a shell weighing 21", 4 pounds. The gan Itself, specially design-j ed for aircraft use, weigns oruy 320 pounds. The plane also car' ries two 303 Browning machine guns. Woman Stabs Self Because She Nagged Her Husband Too Much SEATTLE, April 21 (ll.B Mrs. Isabelle Hoag, 22, told au thorities today she got so tired of hearing herself nag her hus band she decided to "do him ' favor and kill myself." Taken to a hospital after (tab bing herself twice in the chest, Mrs. Hoag told attendants the way she nagged her husband, Riley, a mechanic, was "some thing terrible." "Mostly I nagged him about money," she said. Told she would recover, she promised not to try to take her life again, but she added: "Somebody ought to kick me where It would do the most good." San Francisco Turns Down Plan To Merge Street Car Companies SAN FRANCISCO, April 21. W) For the second time In less than six months, San Francisco voters have defeated a proposal to consolidate the city's street railways by purchasing the privately-owned Market Street sys tem. The total semi-official vote In a special election yesterday was: "Yes, 53,441; No, 87,399." The election was on a revenue bond proposal to buy the Market Street system for $7,950,000.
