Annual Meetings, 'Other Events Arranged by Clubs ' By MARIAN LOWRY These are busy days for the women's organizations annual meetings, election of officers, installations, yearly guest events, and other traditional activities for the end of the qlub year being circled on the calendars of many groups for the next six weeks. ' , - In keeping with wartime restrictions, the guest events and special luncheon and dinner entertainments are very simple, however, fellowship and sociability being stressed ahead of display and lavish decorations. One of the major club gatherings for the spring will be the state convention of the Oregon Federation of Business and Professional Women's clubs for which the Eugene group will entertain in May. Committees Named Committee memberships for the various events in con nection with the state B. and P.W. convention, May 14-15-16, wete announced this week. Mrs. Lyman C. Palmer is gen eial chairman. For the reception to be given the first evening of the convention, honoring state and national officers, the fol lowing have been named: Mrs. J.'F. White, Mrs. Edwin Lid dell. Dr. Victory Morris, Miss Marie Gross, Mrs. Robert M. Fischer, Jr., Mrs. Bruce Nidever, and all committee chair men. On the committee for the delegates' luncheon to be held Saturday of the convention, are the following: Miss Thelma Neaville, Miss Clara Nasholm, Miss Martha. Foster, Miss Ann Brenner, Mrs. Bruce Nidever, Miss Gladys Chase, Mrs. Ruth Johnson. ' Arranging the formal dinner for the convention are Mrs. Glenn Pirtle, Mrs. Edwin Llddell, Mrs. Whitten Swafford, Miss Marie Mitchell, Mrs. Leora McMurphey, Miss Myrtle Porter, Mrs. Harold Miller. Mrs. Frank Connell and Mrs. Max Burris are the com mittee for the Saturday evening party. In charge of the emblem breakfast, a traditional event each Sunday of the convention, are Mrs. Harold Jensen, Mrs. Merle Chase, Miss Ann Brenner; Mrs. Esther Gross, Mrs. J. F. White, Miss Merle Nimmo, Mrs. Clarence Crocker. Members of the program books committee are Mrs. H. D. Moreland,, Miss Myrtle Smith, Mrs. Karl Blechscmidt, Mrs. Floyd Horn, Mrs. Ruth Richardson. The ceremony was solemnized at a nuptial mass, March 9 at the post chapel of the airbase where Mr. Kaba is m fining, Lincoln, Neb. , ,, .The couple will reside In Lincoln for the present, Mr. Ka being in an instructors' school there. Roman photo, WilUhlro n craving MISS MAUD DENSMORE Re-elected as chairman of the Women's Choral club this past week was Miss Maud Densmore, one of the most active workers in this civic singing organization. The club's spring concert Is announced for May 3. ( From Bakersfield, Cal., comes an account of the mar riage of Miss Thelma Susette Vanderford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Vanderford of Grldley, Cal., to Army Air Cadet Floyd R. Jensen, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Jensen, route 5, Eugene. The ceremony was solemnized as a candlelight one the evening of March 6 in the chapel of the Sacred Memories Methodist church in Bakersfield, Rev. Mr. Swanson of the , Bakersfield Lutheran church officiating at the double ring service. Miss rLavonne TayloV, sorority sister of the bride at Chico State college, and Stanley Jensen of Eugene, brother of the bridegroom, were the attendants. The bride, given in marriage by. her father, wore a dress of white satin, cut in princess style, with a long court train, long sleeves, and modified Medicean collar of Chantllly lace. She wore a Juliet cap of seed pearls, and carried a French bouquet of gardenids, pink rosebuds, daf fodils, and blue delphiniums. Miss Taylor wore a dress of . pink satin and net and carried a bouquet of blue del phiniums with pink streamers. ; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Jensen and their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Jensen, went south for the wedding. The bridegroom's mother wore a dark suit with white accessories and corsage of gardenias, the bride's mother, a blue ensemble with navy accessories, and cor sage of gardenias. Following the service, a reception was held in the church parlors. About twenty-five attended. Mr. and Mrs. Jensen are at home at 2027 Pacific street, Bakersfield. The bride has been attending Chico State col lege, this being her Junior year, and has been president of the college riding club and active in Theta Sigma Epsllon sorority. Mr. Jensen is taking his basic training as an army . pilot at Gardner field at Taft. He took his pre-cadet training at Chico flying field and his primary instruction at Oxnard. Business Women's Dinner At Scout Center Thursday The Eugene Business and Professional Women's club members will assemble at the Girl Scouts center for a din ner on Thursday evening, six-thirty o'clock. This is the monthly social for the group and some motion pictures will be shown. Mrs. Bruce Nidever, Miss Thelma Neaville, Miss Clara Nasholm, Mrs. Howard McFadgen, members of the bulletin committee, are hostesses for the meeting. New officers for the Ladies of the Elks are being an nounced. T.hey include: Mrs. H. P. Johnson, president; Mrs. I. L Kienzle, vice-president; Mrs. W. C. Walling, secretary; Mrs. May T. Moon, treasurer; Mrs Harry Ditter, trustee. Retiring officers were: Mrs. Ditter," president; Mrs. Charles E. Hunt, vice-president; Mrs. Larry Roskamp, secretary! Mrs. T. J. Casey, treasurer. The group held its card party the past week, a polluck luncheon being given in honor of the new officers with the past year's officers as hostesses. Mrs Daniel to Talk for Newcomers' Club Tea Featuring the March meeting and tea for the New comers' Division, University of Oregon Women's Faculty club, Monday afternoon, will be a talk by Mrs. E. G. Daniel who will display scrapbooks compiled on Europe and Eng land and give comments on them. " The tea will be from three until five o'clock in Alumni hall of the Gerllnger building, the affair honoring all for mer members of the Newcomers' division. Miss Frances Brobert will provide music. Mrs. Carl F. Kossack, president of the club last year, will pour. On the serving committee are Mrs. Charles D. Bubb, Jr., Mrs. William S. Averill, Mrs. A. L. Soderwall. There will be a nursery for small children accompanying their mothers to the tea. Looking ahead to April, a large group is jotting April 9 on the calendar with special interest, that date bringing the Matrix Table banquet given each year by Theta Sigma Phi, national journalism honorary society, for a large group of campus and townswomen. The event is staged by Theta Sigma Phi chapters throughout the nation to honor women's achievements in journalism, music, and other arts. Mrs. H. D. McDonald, known professionally as Lucile Saunders McDonald, is to be the honored guest and speak er for this year's Matrix Table. A graduate of the Univer sity of Oregon, Mrs. McDonald Is a member of the campus chapter of Theta Sigma Phi. Mrs. McDonald has had a varied career In Journalism, having written for many papers and publications. Travel ing with her husband, H. D. McDonald, also former univer sity student, Mrs. McDonald had opportunities for observa tions in other countries, Turkey, Hungary, Egypt, and va rious sections of South America as well as Africa and other places. Many of these observations she has woven into her journalism work. At present, Mrs. McDonald is on the staff of the Seattle Times, defying tradition there to be ac cepted as q member of the usually "100 per cent" male copy desk staff. Miss Mildred Wilson of Eugene is president of the Theta Sigma Phi chapter this year. General chairman for the banquet Is Miss Constance Averill. The banquet, a formal occasion, will be at the Osburn hotel, six-thirty o'clock, April 9. Mrs. O. F. Stafford is being welcomed home following three months In the east. She visited at Pitman, New Jersey, with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Ham ilton, and while there welcomed a new granddaughter, Julie Hamilton, second child In the Hamilton family, there being a brother, Bobby. Mrs. Stafford also visited with her son, Howard Stafford, who is In the army as Instructor at the officers candidate school at Starkville, Mississippi. Spinsters club members will gather Wednesday eve ning at the Red Cross rooms to work on surgical dressings. On April 7, the group will meet at the home of Miss Betty Sether for a "white elephant" sale and to welcome new members. Miss Hope Hughes will be assistant hostess for that meeting. The group met the past week with Misses Martha Jane Switzer and Anita Simons as hostesses at the home of the former. At this meeting names for new mem bers were voted on. Towne Club March Dance Calendared for Saturday ' Towne club's March dance Is arranged for next Satur day evening, Osbum hotel. , On the committee for the evening are Mr. and Mrs. Merle Nash, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Petit, Mr. and Mrs, Milo Glassman, Mr. and Mrs. William Van Nuys. Membership of the Zonta club will gather this morning at the home of Mrs. Eva Collins for brunch at eleven o'clock honoring Miss Helen Yockey, Salem, vice-chairman of the Zonta clubs for district VI, Oregon and Washington, Miss Yockey to make her official visit to the local club at that time. .
