Sept 20 C) .Stanford's Rose Bowl cham pions took to the defensive today and tried stopping the plays Ore gon is expected to use against them in next Saturday's football opener here. Coach Clark Shaughnessy said the scrimmage would be the last of full-dress character until the game. He had no comment en it, as he was absent during the prac tice. , While the varsity worked de fensive, the reserves were de ployed against the freshmen en an adjoining field. Neither side displayed much power on the of fensive. A shift in eositlen moved Leren Laprade, 320-pound star center of the WO trow, to nini guara. Then he will share duties with Jack Francis and Ed McCain, men in line for these positions are all lettermen they were not regu lars last year. The right half position and one of the tackle positions are the only other posi tions without regulars from last year. The blocking back position wss weakened by the graduation of Jerry Perdue, a Lane-Dsuglas all star. Both regular guards are miss ing due to the graduation of Allen Kirk and the . absence of Lee Brown, who dropped out of school. Others lost were Ed Jordan, last year's captain who was out with injuries much of the season giving Lee Todd plenty of experience at the fullback post, John Keezer, regular tackle, and Hal Thomp son alternate at left half.
